Lady Wolverines Fall To Fourth Place

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine basketball team traveled to Calhoun on Tuesday, Jan. 11 to face the Gordon Central Lady Warriors in a key Region 7-AA game.
Both teams got off to a good start, trading baskets and playing good defense. When the first quarter ended the game was tied 14-14.
Dade struggled to score in the second quarter, managing just five points, but their defense kept them in the game as they held the Lady Warriors to just 13 points. At the end of the first half the Lady Wolverines trailed 27-19.
Dade came out firing in the second half and by the end of the third quarter they had wiped out the eight-point Gordon Central lead and tied the game, 37-37.
The fourth quarter was dominated by defense as both teams struggled to score but when the final buzzer sounded the Lady Wolverines found themselves on the short end of the 48-46 score. This was the first Region 7-AA loss of the season for the Lady Wolverines.
Ali Thompson led the Lady Wolverines with 14 points while Kami Counts finished the night with 10 points,

On Friday night the Lady Wolverines hosted the Fannin County Lady Rebels who came in with a 4-0 Region 7-AA record, 13-2 overall, and sitting in first place in region.
Both teams struggled in the first quarter, not able to find their shooting range, but the Lady Rebels did manage to double up the Lady Wolverines, 12-6.
The second quarter was uneventful as both teams had trouble putting the ball in the basket and at the end of the first half Fannin County led 19-12.
The Lady Rebels came out in the third quarter and dominated the Lady Wolverines, outscoring them 24-9 to take a commanding 43-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter Dade’s scoring woes continued as they managed just seven points and fell to the Lady Rebels by the final score of 55-28. The loss dropped the Lady Wolverines to fourth place in Region 7-AA play.
Brooklyn Konrad led the Lady Wolverines with eight points while Emma Heard scored six and Olivia Tierce finished with four.

This week the Lady Wolverines will travel to Chattooga on Tuesday and then host North Sand Mountain on Wednesday with the girls tipping off a 6 p.m., and the boys at 7:30 p.m. This is a game that had been rescheduled from earlier in the season.
On Friday night the Lady Wolverines will be at home hosting Ridgeland with JV games starting at 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. and varsity games beginning at 7 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
