Dade County got back on the mats this past week when they competed Wednesday at the Rockmart Invitational and again on Thursday at Fort Payne.
Dade wrestled well on Wednesday, finishing third as a team behind Trion and Rockmart. The Wolverines had two champions, Hayden Langley 106, and Landon Williams 182. Cody Williams finished runner up at 195 pounds, while Austin Sorrelle finished third at 285. Cayden Cooper finished fourth at 152. Several Wolverines came within one match of placing at the very difficult tournament. Heidi Raines, Isaac Pangle, Zac Smith, and Jake Gatlin all wrestled well.
Thursday the Wolverines traveled to Fort Payne, Ala., to take on the Wildcats. The dual ended in a 39-39 tie, and Fort Payne was awarded the win based on the ninth criteria. The loss puts the Wolverines at 19-5 on the season as they head to Area Duals this coming Saturday at Chattooga.
“I wasn’t happy with our approach over the break. I think we got to a place where we thought we deserved something. Fort Payne definitely opened a couple eyes on our team, and I hope the lessons learned were not learned too late,” Coach Jeff Poston said.
