The Dade County High School Wolverine athletic programs were hit hard by COVID and the flu last week as several events had to be postponed or canceled.
The Lady Wolverines basketball games were postponed until after Christmas as well as the wrestling matches that were scheduled for last week.
The Wolverines basketball team played their game on Tuesday against Trion but their remaining games before Christmas were postponed.
On Tuesday, Dec. 14 the Trion Bulldogs came calling and the Wolverines were looking for revenge from an earlier close loss at Trion.
The game got off to a fast start as the two teams put up 43 first quarter points with Dade holding a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 23-20.
The pace slowed considerably in the second quarter, but the Wolverines managed to add to their lead and at the end of the first half were on top, 35-30.
Dade came out hot to start the second half and by the end of the third quarter had put the game away against the visiting Bulldogs, outscoring them 26-14 and taking a 61-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Wolverines continued their hot shooting in the fourth quarter and came away with an easy 81-57 win over the Bulldogs.
DCHS got 11 players in the game, utilizing some junior varsity players due to illness of some of the starters.
Brody Cooper and Everett Christiansen led the Wolverines with 17 points each. Levi Moreland was close behind with 16 points and Max Howard finished the night with 10 points. Carter Christiansen scored nine, Brodie Swader eight, and Josh Tinker two to round out the scoring.
The upcoming schedule has the Wolverines and Lady Wolverines participating in the Gordon Lee Tournament next week but see next week’s Sentinel for game times and opponents. Hopefully, those games will be played, and we will have the schedule next week.
Also, next week the wrestling team is scheduled to be in action on Dec. 29th and the Sentinel hopes to be able to confirm that information next week as well.
