Wolverines Looking For Region Title

The Dade County High School Wolverine football team traveled to Calhoun on Friday night to face the winless Gordon Central Warriors in their next to last Region 7-AA game of the year.

A win sets up a showdown next week in Blue Ridge for the Region 7-AA title, the Rebels are currently 5-0 and the Wolverines go in with a 4-1 region record. A win would give Dade the title due to the head-to-head match up.

The Wolverines got off to a slow start at Gordon Central, scoring their fist touchdown with 4:20 remaining in the fist quarter on a 11-yard touchdown run by Cayden Cooper, the Caroline Tremmier kick was good, and the Dade took a 7-0 lead.

They really got things rolling in the second quarter, Cayden Cooper scored again on a 10-yard run with 10:31 and the Abigail Tremmier kick was blocked to make it 13-0 Wolverines.

Then with 5:21 left in the quarter Cody Williams got in on the scoring action with a six-yard touchdown run and the Abigail Tremmier kick was good, and the Wolverine lead was 20-0.

Just three and a half minutes later Cody Williams found the end zone again, this time on a one-yard run and again the Abigail Tremmier kick was good and the DCHS lead was 27-0 as the first half ended.

The Wolverines didn’t let up any in the second half as Cayden Cooper scored on a three-yard run with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter, Caroline Tremmier kicked the extra point to make it 34-0 Wolverines.

Then with 4:15 remaining in the quarter Brody Cooper ran for a 16-yard touchdown and Abigail Tremmier kicked the extra point to make it 41-0.

Then, just before the quarter ended Brody Cooper scored again on a 12-yard touchdown run with the Caroline Tremmier kick it was 48-0 Dade.

The Wolverines would cross the goal line twice in the fourth quarter, Brandon Willerson scored on a 19-yard run and the Abigail Tremmier kick made it 55-0.

Then with 1:34 remaining Grant Moore threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Walker and the Caroline Tremmier kick made the final score 62-0 Wolverines.

DCHS completely dominated the host amassing 410-yard total offense to just 104 yards for Gordon Central.

Cody Williams led the Wolverine ground attack with 161 yards on 11 carries while Cayden Cooper had 10 carries for 64 yard and Brody Cooper had eight carries for 64 yards.

The offensive line was led by Andrew Buffington with three pancakes, one knockdown; Austin Sorrelle, two pancakes; Isaac Pangle, one pancake, three knockdowns; Landon Williams, two pancakes, one knockdown; Zac Counts, one pancake, one knockdown; Conner Cash, one pancake; Gabriel Yarbrough, one pancake; and Jordon Costealanos, two knockdowns.

The Wolverine defense was led by Caleb Massey, one tackle, one assist, one pass breakup; Braylon Sullivan, three tackles, one interception; Everett Christianson, one tackle, one assist, one pass breakup; Dylan Dwyer, one tackle, one assist, one pass breakup; Zeke Wheeler, six tackles; Isaac Pangle, four tackles, one TFL, one sack, one fumble recovery; Xander Lynch, four tackles, two assist; Carter Christiansen, one pass breakup; Landon Williams, five tackles, two assists, one sack; Cody Williams, four tackles; Levi McKaig, one tackle, one assist; Jax Guinn, one tackle, one assist; Eli Kimball, one tackle, one sack; Tyler Williams, one tackle, one assist; Caleb Munger, one tackle, two QB pressures; Lucas Costley, two tackles, two assists; Dakota Whitmore, two tackles, one TFL; Damian Stoglin, one tackle; Zac Smith, three tackles, one sack.

Coach Jeff Poston said after the game, “I am extremely happy with how we played. This win guaranteed us an opportunity to play for a region championship this week. That has been our goal since day one. I am also excited for the kids because they earned a home playoff game. This team has fighters on it, and we get a great opportunity to fight for a championship this week.”
The Wolverines face off against Fannin County in Blue Ridge Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
