Softball Extends Winning Streak

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team had another busy week as they continued to dominate opponents as they strive to make a deep run in the state tournament this year.
On Tuesday, Sept. 21 they traveled to Ridgeland to face the Lady Panthers in a non-region double-header.
In the first game Dade took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. They then added a run in the second and third innings before putting another three spot on the host in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers managed to score two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Wolverines responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the run rule, 11-2.
Kristen Fowler led the Lady Wolverines with four hits, including a home run. She also scored four runs and had four RBIs. Kami Counts had three hits and two RBIs and scored two runs while Ali Thompson had two hits including a home run and two RBIs. Olivia Tierce had two hits and one RBI as well.
Kayleigh Warnock picked up the win pitching five innings and giving up five hits and two runs while striking out two.

In the second game of the double header, it was more of the same for the hot hitting Lady Wolverines.
After trailing 2-1 after one inning the bats got hot, and they scored seven runs in the second and added three more in the third to coast to another 11-2 win over the host Lady Panthers.
In this game Thompson led the way with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs while Fowler, Counts and Tierce all had one hit and two RBIs in the game.
Warnock again picked up the win pitching three innings and giving up four hits and two runs while striking out three. Alyssa Wilson pitched two innings giving up no hits.

On Thursday the Lady Wolverines traveled to Model to face the Lady Blue Devils in a Region 7-AA game and again they got off to a fast start, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
They added a run in the third to go up 3-0 and then had a big fifth inning scoring five runs for an 8-0 lead.
The Lady Blue Devils then rallied for three runs of their own to cut the lead to 8-3 heading to the sixth inning.
This was rare territory for the Lady Wolverines who had a string of run rule games lately.
The came right back and scored two runs in the top of the sixth and added another in the top of the seventh to claimed the win 11-3. This was their third game of the week they scored 11 runs in.
Stella Henry led the Lady Wolverines with five hits, two stolen bases and four runs scored while Thompson had three hits, including her second home run of the week, and four RBI.
Warnock picked up her third win of the week pitching 4.1 innings and giving up just four hits and three runs. Wilson pitched 2.2 strong innings of relief giving up three hits and striking out one.

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Gordon Lee on Monday in a non-region game and then hosted Gordon Central Tuesday before traveling to Chattooga on Thursday in a big game against the Lady Indians. DCHS handed the Lady Indians their first loss of the season recently so they will be looking for revenge. That game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
