If you are longing for a little early football, you will get your wish this week as the Dade County High School Wolverines have been in spring practice for the past week. So, get ready for a sneak peek at the 2021 Wolverine football team.

The Dade County High School Wolverine football will take the field Thursday night, May 20, at Southeast Whitfield High School in Dalton in a spring scrimmage game to wrap up spring practice.

Kickoff has been set for 6 p.m. and head coach Jeff Poston gave the following comments on the upcoming scrimmage.

“This spring the focus has been on building on the offensive success of last season, finding some depth, and finding a quarterback.

The Wolverines have been able to address the depth issue. Currently, 58 kids are on the spring roster. Dade intends to start 11 kids on offense, and another 11 kids on defense. Cody Williams will be the only two-way player in the spring game, and that is due to an injury.

Dade wants to get as many reps as possible for as many kids as possible Thursday night. Obviously, we want to win the game, but it’s more important for us to find out who we can count on heading into summer workouts.”

“I’ve been very impressed with the kids, attitude and approach the last week and a half. We have a couple kids who haven’t played since eighth grade, and I’m extremely glad to have them back out here.”

Coach Jeff Poston is beginning his second year as the Wolverines head coach and has been working hard to build the program along with all of his assistants.

Travel to Dalton on Thursday and support the Wolverine players and coaches as they work towards next season.
