The weather delayed the start of the Dade County High School Wolverine tennis season for a week but the season finally got underway last week and Coaches Jennifer Wood and Kaity Mizell have been working hard to get their athletes ready.

Last week, DCHS had two matches, first traveling to Fannin County on Tuesday, then competing Thursday at home against Coosa.

At Fannin, the girls’ team pulled a huge win with victories in singles for seniors Jayda Wood, Joanna Rosenbalm, and Michaela Massey.

The Lady Wolverines also added a doubles victory for freshman Lex Atterton and junior Macy King.

The Wolverine boys fought hard with several close matches. Sophomore Ethan Hunt came through with a big singles victory through two tie breakers, giving him the victory.

In Thursday’s matches both teams crushed the Coosa Eagles.

Senior Jayda Wood and Michaela Massey along with junior Chase Ledesman came out the epic singles victories over the Eagles. Sophomore Ethan Hunt and freshman Lance Moore brought the heat on the doubles court and came out with a big win as well.

The coaches said. “Our Wolverines hustled hard and fought to the end, bringing a well-deserved region dub on our home courts.”
