The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team traveled to Dalton on Wednesday, Feb. 17 to face Northwest Whitfield in the season opener for both schools.
The young Wolverines had a tough go of it against a veteran AAAA team.
Dade fell behind early and could not get anything going against a tough left-handed pitcher on the mound for NW Whitfield.
Going the distance, the Bruin pitcher recorded 21 strikeouts, as the Wolverines managed to put just two balls in play and NW Whitfield made errors on both.
Meanwhile the Bruins were managing eight hits and scored five runs, only one of which was earned as DCHS made three errors.
The Wolverines two games on Saturday were canceled due to field conditions but have a full week scheduled this week.
On Thursday the Wolverines will host their first home game of the year when North Sand Mountain comes calling with a 5:55 p.m. start.
They will wrap up the week on Friday when Ft. Payne High School comes to town with game time set for a 5 p.m. EST start.
Get out and support the Wolverines as the season get started.
