Lady Wolverines Pick Up Four Wins In Three Days, 6-1 On The Season

Photo by Eddy Gifford – Lexi Lawson had a big week as she picked up three wins for the Lady Wolverines. She pitched 22 innings giving up just 11 hits while throwing 301 pitches. The team is currently 6-1 this season with region play starting next week.

Dade County High School’s Lady Wolverine softball team hosted the LaFayette Lady Rambles on Tuesday, Aug. 5, to start a busy week that consisted of four games in three days.

The Lady Ramblers would score first, picking up a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. They put another run on the board in the top of the fifth to go up 2-0.

Dade County pushed its first run of the game across in the bottom of the fifth when Camy Chambers walked, was sacrificed to second by Miley Chambers, and scored on a passed ball with one out to cut the Lady Rambler lead in half, 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, still trailing 2-1, the Lady Wolverines went to work when Lexi Lawson singled to start the inning. Josie Daniel ran for Lawson and advanced to second on a single by Winter Daniel. A sacrifice by Rylee Byram put runners at second and third with one out. A LaFayette error resulted in two runs as C. Chambers advanced to second on the error. C. Chambers advanced to third on a ground out and later scored on a single by Kaleighly West to give the Lady Wolverines a 5-2 lead.

The Lady Ramblers failed to score in the sixth or seventh innings, and Dade County claimed a hard-fought win, 5-2.

West led the Lady Wolverines with two hits, scored a run, and had an RBI.

Lawson pitched another outstanding game, giving up just three hits, two runs (none earned), walking two, and striking out three.

On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Dalton to face the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield where they got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.

With one out, Riley Talley doubled, Isabell White walked, Lawson singled to load the bases, W. Daniel singled to score Talley, and Josie Daniel scored as did Tinsley Oxendine (courtesy runner for Lawson) to put Dade up 3-0.

The Lady Wolverines scored one run in the second on a single by Madi Page and a double by White to go up 4-0.

The Lady Bruins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut Dade’s led to 4-2.

The Lady Wolverines put the game away in the top of the seventh with three runs on three hits and a pair of walks to claim a big 7-2 win.

Rylee Byram led the Lady Wolverines with three hits while White had two hits, as did Kaleighly West.

Lawson pitched another gem of seven innings, giving up just five hits, two runs, three walks, and striking out ten.

On Friday, Aug. 8, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Calhoun for a pair of games in the Calhoun tournament. First up for the Lady Wolverines was the Murray County Lady Indians.

This turned out to be a pitcher’s duel won by Dade County’s Lawson who pitched eight innings for her third complete game of the week. She gave up just three hits, one unearned run, walked one, and struck out seven. She threw 72 strikes out of 97 total pitches.

Talley and C. Chambers led the Lady Wolverine offense with a pair of hits each.

Dade County’s final game of the week came against the Dalton Lady Catamounts in the tournament on Friday night.

Kaleighly West stole the show for the Lady Wolverines against the Lady Catamounts pitching a one hit shutout, pitching six innings striking out 12 for her first win of the season.

The offense was led by Talley with two hits, two RBIs, and one scored run and C. Chambers who also had two hits and scored one run.
Dade defeated the Lady Catamounts 4-0 in the six-inning game. They improved to 6-1 for the season.

This week, the Lady Wolverines hosted Trion on Monday and will travel to LaFayette on Saturday, Aug. 16, for an 11 a.m. game.
