Wolverines Take Series From Warriors

The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team opened a three-game series with the Gordon Central Warriors on Wednesday, April 2, at Wolverine field.
The Wolverines got off to a good start, shutting out the visiting Warriors in the top of the first inning.
Kaiden Hubbard hit a triple with one out in the bottom of the first inning and scored the first run on a ground out by Parker Hill. River McBryar then hit a double and scored on a single by Levi Jordon for a 2-0 Wolverine lead.
The Warriors answered with a run in the top of the second and then tied the game 2-2 with another run in the top of the third.
Dade County took the lead again in the bottom of the third when an error and sacrifice bunt scored the go ahead run putting them up 3-2, a lead they would not give up.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Wolverines scored four big runs on three Gordon Central errors and a pair of hits by McBryar and Evan Mims.
Dade added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, one hit, two Warrior errors and two walks to extend the lead to 10-2.
Gordon Central was unable to rally, and the Wolverines claimed the win.
Jordon and Nic Moreland had two hits and one RBI each to lead the Wolverine offense while Hubbard and Hill split pitching duties for the win.

At Gordon Central on Thursday, April 3, Dade County took the lead in the top of the first inning by scoring a pair of runs on just one hit, a single by Hubbard to take a 2-0 lead.
The Wolverines added another run in the second to go up 3-1 before the Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-1 game.
Dade scored a single run in the top of the fourth and then added two in the top of the fifth before Gordon Central scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3 Wolverines.
The Wolverines secured the win with a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh and claimed a 9-3 win.
Gavin Wright pitched a strong 6.1 innings, giving up just six hits, three runs, walking five, and striking out three. He threw 107 pitches in the game for his best outing of the season.
Hubbard led the Wolverines with four hits and a pair of RBIs while Mims and Jake Harris had two hits and two RBIs each.

The Wolverines were back at home on Friday, April 4, to face the Warriors for the third game of the series and got their second strong pitching performance of the week when McBryar went the distance. In seven innings he gave up just four hits, two runs, no earned runs, walked two, and struck out four.
Dade County was led by Harris with two hits and the first home run of the season. He also had two RBIs and two runs scored. Jordan also had two hits and scored three runs.
The Warriors led the game 1-0 after three and a half innings of play but the Wolverines scored five big runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 5-1 and then scored three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to claim an easy 10-2 win and a three game sweep of the Warriors.

This week, the Wolverines traveled to Fannin County on Tuesday and will host the Rebels on Thursday, April 10, for a 5:55 p.m. game. The final game of the series will be played at Fannin County on Friday, April 11, with the game starting at 5:55 p.m.
