Wolverines Down Pumas By 62, Fall To NSM Bison In OT

The Dade County Wolverine basketball team hosted North Sand Mountain on Monday, Jan. 6, in a big rivalry game that did not disappoint as the two teams battled from the tip-off to the final buzzer in an exciting overtime game.
Dade County got off to a good start, scoring 19 first quarter points and taking a three-point lead over the Bison, 19-16.
NSM picked up its game in the second quarter while the Wolverines went cold, scoring just eight points. The Bison outscored Dade 15 to eight in the second quarter to take the lead at the end of the first half, 31-27.
The Wolverines played much better in the third quarter, outscoring NSM 19 to 13, and taking a two-point lead into the fourth quarter, 46-44.
In a wild fourth quarter, the Bison took the lead early, but the Wolverines rallied late in the quarter and tied the game with three seconds remaining to send the game to overtime tied 59-59.
In overtime, NSM got off to a fast start hitting a pair of three-point shots on the first two possessions, and Dade was unable to recover. The Bison went on to win 73-69 outscoring the Wolverines 14 to nine in the overtime period.
The Bison were led by Landon Keller with 19 points while Blake Maples scored 14 and Jack Johnson finished with ten points .
H. Garmany led the Wolverines with 19 points followed by Braydan Jones with 13, and Bryson Shrader and Cash Christiansen with ten points each.
The large crowd certainly got their money’s worth in the back-and-forth contest between the close rivals.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Wolverines hosted the Dalton Academy Pumas in a region contest that was over early as the Wolverines jumped out to a big first quarter lead, 24-8 on the upstart Pumas.
By the end of the first half, Dade County had put the game away, leading 51-13.
The action slowed in the second half as the Wolverines got a lot of younger players in the game, and at the end of the third quarter, they were up 62-16.
A 20-point fourth quarter by the Wolverines ended the game with a 62 point win, 82-20.
Eleven Wolverines scored in the game led by Christiansen with 13 points and Parker Hill with 11 points.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, Dade County traveled to Chattooga County to face the Indians in another region game. This turned out to be another exciting, close game as the Wolverines played well but came out on the short end of the score.
Dade took a slim one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 18-17, but the Indians rallied in the second quarter, and at the end of the first half, they led the Wolverines 38-34.
The third quarter would prove to be the Wolverines downfall as Chattooga outscored them by five points, 20-15, to lead 58-49.
The nine-point deficit was more than the Wolverines could overcome in the fourth quarter, and the Indians came away with a big region win, 76-68.
Jones led Dade County with 18 points while Shrader finished with 13 and H. Garmany scored 13.

This week, the Wolverines hosted the Gordon Lee Trojans on Tuesday and will travel to Fannin County on Friday to face the Rebels. Both games are region contests, and the Wolverines will play following the Lady Wolverines 6 p.m. games.
