Lady Wolverines Dominate Dalton Academy’s Lady Pumas

The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team had a busy week before the snow brought everything to a halt, playing three games in four days. A fourth game was scheduled, but it was moved to Jan. 25.

On Monday, Jan. 6, the Lady Wolverines hosted the Lady Bison of North Sand Mountain in a rivalry game in the Wolverine gym.

It was back and forth early before the Lady Bison got some breathing room with a late run in the first quarter to lead 19-11 after the first quarter.

Dade had trouble scoring in the second quarter, managing just two points while NSM poured in 16 to take a 22 point lead at the end of the first half, 35-13.

The Lady Bison added to their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 14-10 for a commanding 49-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

It was again all NSM as they poured in 17 points in the fourth quarter while Dade County managed just nine and fell by the final score of 66-32.

The Lady Bison were led by Madison Renfro with 19 points, hitting six three-point shots. Cara Holder finished with 13 points and Kayden Reyes scored 11 and Kali Kirkpatrick finished with nine points.

The Lady Wolverines were led by Makensy Cooper with 11 points while Josie Daniels finished with seven and Kamryn Morris scored five. Adilynn Gross grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

On Tuesday night, Jan. 7, the Lady Wolverines hosted Dalton Academy. Dade jumped out to an early lead and at the end of the first quarter were up 14-5 over the upstart Lady Pumas.

The Lady Wolverines continued to dominate in the second quarter as well, outscoring Dalton Academy 13-6 to take a commanding 27-11 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the Lady Pumas struggled to score, managing just two second half points, one basket in the third quarter, while Dade dominated play.

A big third quarter, 27 points put the game away, and then a 16 to 0 fourth quarter finished off a big 70-13 win for the Lady Wolverines.

Riley Talley led the Lady Wolverines with 17 points, hitting five three-point shots and grabbing six rebounds, while Kiera Hughes finished with nine points, going three for three on three-point shots.

Cooper finished with nine points and seven rebounds, Kailey Pardue, Morris, and Daniels finished with eight points each and Gross finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.

On Thursday night, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Chattooga County to face the Lady Indians and could have used some of those points from Tuesday night.

Scoring only five first quarter points, the Lady Wolverines found themselves trailing by six at the end of the first quarter, 11-5.
The Lady Indians came to life in the second quarter with 22 points while Dade struggled to score eight and at the end of the first half trailed 33-13.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Wolverines could not get their shots to fall and were outscored 14 to four in the third quarter and 14 to nine in the fourth quarter. They fell to Chattooga by the final score of 54-26.

K. Hughes and Morris led the Lady Wolverines with five points each while Gross finished with seven rebounds and K. Hughes finished with six rebounds.

Dade played Gordon Lee on Tuesday and will then travel to Fannin County on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
