Lady Wolverines Sneak Past Lady Warriors By One Point To Claim Second Region Win

The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team returned to the court last Friday after Christmas break. They traveled to Calhoun to face the Gordon Central Lady Warriors in a region game.

Dade County got off to a good start, taking the early lead, and at the end of the first quarter were up by five points, 11-6.

The Lady Wolverines continued to lead in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Warriors 10-8 to take a seven-point lead at the end of the first half, 21-14.

Dade had trouble scoring in the second half, however, and Gordon Central staged a comeback, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 11-5 in the third quarter to cut the lead to one, 26-25.

Defense would dominate the fourth quarter with a total of just ten points scored, five by each team, and the Lady Wolverines pulled out an exciting 31-30 win over the Lady Warriors. It was Dade’s second region win of the season.

Kailey Pardue led the Lady Wolverines with eight points, including the game–winning basket at the end of the game. Kamryn Morris finished with seven points and Makensy Cooper scored five points.

Dade – Pardue 8, K. Hughes, Cooper 5, Talley 4, Chambers 3, Gross 2, Warnock, Morris 7, Campbell, Daniels 2.

On Saturday night, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Sylvania, Ala., to face the Lady Rams in a rematch of the opening game of the season won by the Lady Rams.

Dade County got off to a good start, scoring 12 first quarter points, matching Sylvania point for point and at the end of the first quarter the score was tied, 12-12.

In the second quarter, the Lady Rams were able to take a three-point lead, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 11-8, and at the end of the first half, it was 23-20 in favor of Sylvania.

The Lady Wolverines came out in the second half and had their best third quarter of the season, outscoring the Lady Rams 14-12 to cut their lead to just one point, 35-34.

Dade could not hold it together in the fourth quarter however as Sylvania poured in 20 points while holding the Lady Wolverines to just six and pulled out a hard fought 55-40 win.

Josie Daniels led the Lady Wolverines with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Adilynn Gross scored seven and grabbed six rebounds, and Pardue scored six, as did Morris.

This will be a remarkably busy week for the Lady Wolverines. They hosted North Sand Mountain on Monday and Dalton Academy on Tuesday in a region game. They visit Chattooga on Friday for a region game and then travel to Coosa on Saturday for another region game. All games start at 6 p.m.
