The Dade County High School Wolverine wrestling team was busy last week wrestling ten matches in three days.
The Wolverines hosted Heritage on Thursday night and the Generals controlled the action with a dominating 65-18 win.
Dade County would wake up early on Friday and head south to Jeff Davis High School and the annual Jacket Duals. Jeff Davis also hosted a girl’s tournament, The Queen of the Nest.
Jerzee Crabtree went undefeated in her bracket, winning all of her matches by fall. Maleah Wilson came in third place in her bracket. Emma Hartline, Miley Chambers, and Baylee Perkins all competed for the Lady Wolverines as well.
The boys’ varsity rebounded well from Thursday night and went 7-2 Friday night and Saturday. The Wolverines were 5-0 coming out of their pool into the gold bracket. Dade had wins over Harlem, Brantley County, Effingham, East Laurens, and Bacon County.
The Wolverines dropped a close match against Benedictine in the opening round of bracket competition, losing 44-35. They then lost a rematch with Brantley before beating Effingham in the final match of the weekend.
Wolverine coach Jeff Poston said, “I feel like we finally woke up and learned how to fight. We can be a good team, but I think we thought we could go through the motions, and it would be good enough. Heritage kicked our butts pretty good, and I think it was just what we needed.”
