Gross scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double. The Lady Wolverines fell 62-49. Games this week will be on the road with their next home game being Dec. 6 against Fannin County.

The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team opened the 2024-2025 season last Thursday, Nov. 14, when they hosted the Lady Rams of Sylvania High School.

Dade County has only one returning starter and just two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, and 10 freshmen. Expect some rocky spots along the way but as the season progresses look for them to become an extremely competitive team.

The Lady Wolverines got off to a good start against the Lady Rams, taking an early lead and at the end of the first quarter held a two-point lead, 14-12.

The action slowed in the second quarter as the two teams settled in, but the shots did not fall though Dade maintained its lead and at the end of the first half they were up 24-22.

Sylvania came out hot in the third quarter as the Lady Wolverines looked like the young team they are and fell behind early. The Lady Rams outscored them by 19 points in the third quarter to take the lead 47-30 heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Wolverines battled back and at one point had cut the margin to eight points but could not get any closer and fell to Sylvania 62-49.

Dade County played hard and after falling behind after a bad third quarter they continued to battle, which is a good sign for this team.

An enormous difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Lady Rams made 20 of 31 (64.5 percent) and the Lady Wolverines were only 9 of 22 (40.9 percent). Also, Sylvania hit eight three-point shots to the Lady Wolverines four.

Senior Adilynn Gross led the Lady Wolverines with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Morgan Edwards scored eight points and had four rebounds; Kiera Hughes scored seven points, had six rebounds and three assists; and Makensy Cooper scored six points, had five rebounds and two blocked shots.

This week the Lady Wolverines traveled to Oakwood Christian on Tuesday.

The Wolverine basketball team will open their season at Oakwood.

The Lady Wolverines will also play in the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Tournament starting Saturday, Nov. 23 but game times and opponents were not available at press time.
