Photo by Eddy Gifford – Lexi Lawson pitched three strong games against East Laurens last week as the Lady Wolverines fell to the host 3-1, 0-1, 6-5 to end their season in the Sweet Sixteen. Lawson pitched 22.2 innings in the three-game series, striking out 27, and throwing 310 pitches. Congratulations on a great series and a great season!
The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team traveled to Dublin last week for the Sweet Sixteen round of the state softball playoffs and a best of three game series with the East Laurens Lady Falcons.
It turned out to be an outstanding series with pitching dominating the three games. The starting pitchers in game one threw every pitch of the three-game series plus some as one of the games went nine innings.
In the first game, the Lady Wolverines’ Lexie Lawson and the Lady Falcons’ DeAndrea Lowther locked up in a pitcher’s duel that dominated the entire game.
Dade County scored the first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning when, with one out, Adilynn Gross hit a triple and Isabell White followed with a double to give them the lead, 1-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, East Laurens picked up a pair of hits. With two outs, a walk loaded the bases, and two hits later, the Lady Falcons had a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Wolverines went down in order in the top of the seventh, and the Lady Falcons claimed the game one win.
Lawson pitched six strong innings, allowing just three hits, three runs, striking out 15 Lady Falcons, and throwing 100 pitches, 67 of which were strikes.
Lowther pitched seven strong innings, giving up four hits, one run, walking two, striking out eight, and throwing 92 pitches, 52 of which were strikes.
Gross had a triple and scored the Lady Wolverines’ lone run while White had a single and RBI.

Game two of the Lawson-Lowther duals looked a lot like the first game as a lot of zeros went up on the scoreboard.
The first seven innings were all zeros as the two teams struggled against the outstanding pitching by both pitchers. The game went into extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Lady Wolverines’ Madi Page singled to start the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and Page still at first, Gross hit a line drive double to right field scoring the speedy Page from first and giving the Lady Wolverines a big 1-0 nine-inning win to even the series at 1-1 and forcing game three on Friday.
