The Dade County Wolverine football team hosted the Chattooga County Indians last Friday night as they celebrated Homecoming 2024.

The Indians took the opening kick and marched down the field. With 8:48 remaining in the first quarter, Zayden Cook scored his first touchdown of the night, and they had the lead 7-0.

The Wolverines were unable to move the ball on their first possession, and a good punt was downed at the seven-yard line. It did not take Chattooga long to find the end zone again as they quickly hit a 93-yard touchdown pass. With 4:05 remaining in the first quarter, it was 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, Dade County got on the board when Carter Christiansen scored on a six-yard run with 7:32 remaining in the first half. The extra point kick was blocked, and the Indian lead was 14-6.

Chattooga added another score with 5:59 remaining in the first half when Cook scored again on a 55-yard run. The lead then became 21-6.

The Wolverines turned the ball over late in the second quarter, and Cook scored again. With 1:09 remaining in the first half, and the Indians were up 28-6.

Dade answered quickly when Bryson Shrader threw to Demetrius Walker for a 39-yard touchdown. The Wolverines’ two-point conversion was good, and at the end of the first half, the Indians held the lead 28-14.

On their first possession of the second half, Dade County scored again as Jace Anderson ran in and the two-point conversion cut Chattooga’s lead to 28-22.

That margin did not last long, however, as the Indians returned the kick for a touchdown. With 11:19 remaining in the third quarter, the score was 35-22.

Again, the Wolverines responded as Braydan Jones caught a touchdown pass from Shrader. The two-point conversion try was no good, and Dade trailed 35-28 with 9:47 remaining in the third quarter.

The Indians went on to score 21 unanswered points, and the game ended with the Indians taking the win 56-36.

Chattooga’s Cook, who is the leading rusher in the state, ran the ball 45 times for a total of 464-yard, scored six touchdowns, made nine tackles, and intercepted two passes. He now has 2,424 yards rushing for the season.
