Gordon Lee Trojans Shut Down Wolverines’ Offense In 19–0 Loss

The Dade County Wolverine football team played host to the Gordon Lee Trojans on Friday, Oct. 4, in a region game. This was the first time the Wolverines have faced the Trojans as region opponents is several years as they have been in different classifications for many years.
Gordon Lee scored the first points of the game early in the first quarter when they hit a long pass for a 49-yard touchdown with 7:46 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good, and the Trojans led 7-0.
The Wolverines struggled to move the ball early as the stiff Trojan defense held them at bay on every possession.
Late in the first quarter, Gordon Lee put three more points on the board with a 35-yard field goal to put them on top 10-0.
The second quarter was scoreless as the Dade County continued to struggle on offense and the defense managed to keep the Trojans out of the end zone. At the end of the first half the Wolverines trailed the Trojans 10-0.
Dade’s offense continued to struggle against Gordon Lee’s defense in the second half with a running game that had been good throughout the season was not so good against the Trojans.
With 4:30 remaining in the third quarter, Gordon Lee scored again to increase their lead to 17-0. Then, with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter, the ball was snapped over the Wolverine punter’s head that resulted in a safety giving Gordon Lee a 19-0 lead.
The fourth quarter was scoreless, and Dade fell to the Trojans by the final score of 19-0.
Evan Koger had 14 carries for 31 yards while Win Garmany completed 13 of 25 passes for 113 yards to lead the Wolverine offense.
Carter Christiansen led the Wolverine defense with 13 tackles, two assists; Evan Avans had eight tackles, three assists, one fumble recovery, and one caused fumble; Ryker Stanley had seven tackles, three assists; Gabriel Yarbrough had five tackles, six assists and one caused fumble; and Aidan Kerns had five tackles, three assists.
The Wolverines will travel to Coosa High School this week the face the Eagles in a must-win region game. They will be at home next week to face the Chattooga Indians for Homecoming.
Friday night kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Coosa
