Volleyball Shuts Down Woodland, Ridgeland

Photo by Eddy Gifford – Alyson Jenkins returns a volley in recent action for the Lady Wolverine volleyball team that is looking to the area tournament that begins later this week.

The Dade County Lady Wolverine volleyball team traveled to Ridgeland on Monday, Sept. 23, to face Woodland and the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland.

In the first match against Woodland the Lady Wolverines picked up a big first set win 25-7 and then followed that up with a 26-17 win in the second set to take the match 2-0.

Dade County was led by Azairah Reed with 22 assists; Alyson Jenkins with 8 digs; Caroline Bell with 6 digs, 12 kills; and Riley Overdear with 5 digs and 4 aces.

The Lady Wolverines then faced the Ridgeland Lady Panthers in what turned out to be a hard-fought two set win for DCHS.

The Lady Wolverines took the first set in a hard-fought battle 25-22 and then came back with another hard-fought battle, 25-17 to claim the match 2-0.

Reed led Dade County with 17 assists, 4 digs, 2 aces; Bell with 7 kills, 8 digs; Jenkins 8 digs; Brianna Marlowe 6 kills; and Chloe Ballard 5 digs.

The area tournament is scheduled to begin this week but the match schedule had not been released as of press time.
