The Dade County Wolverine track team had four boys participate in the GHSA A Division 1 State Meet this past weekend. The meet was at historic Barron Stadium in Rome.
Jace Anderson ran the preliminary round of the 110 Meter Hurdles and the 300 Meter Hurdles on Friday. He had to finish in the top eight to qualify for the final round on Saturday. In the 110 Hurdles he finished 11th, running a 16.3. In the 300 Hurdles, he ran a 40.21 and finished fifth.
Saturday, the 4×200 relay team of Braylon Sullivan, Jace Anderson, Halen Chaney, and Solomon Doe competed against 15 other finalist teams.
The boys, who we named the “Dade Squad,” ran a school record time of 1:32.25, which was good for eighth in the state. They each received a medal.
Anderson also ran the final round of the 300 Hurdles on Saturday. He set a personal record and school record of 39.36 and finished fifth overall. It was the second year in a row medaling at the state level.
Coach Steve Green said, “It was an exciting finish to an excellent race season. Our “Dade Squad” boys have accomplished things all year that this school has not seen before. For these young men to make it to the final day and get a medal is huge for our small county. I am also so proud of Jace and what he has done. He works hard, is talented, and is a joy to coach. Glad we still have him for another year. We will miss our seniors Braylon Sullivan and Solomon Doe as well as Paul Allen Phillips and Jack Dupree who joined us later in the year. They all were great student athletes that elevated our program for the future, and the future of Dade track is bright.”
