Wolverines Baseball Faces Darlington Tigers

The Dade County Wolverine baseball team traveled to Rome on Wednesday, March 27, to face the Darlington Tigers in the first game of a three-game region series.
Darlington took the early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Dade came back in the top of the second with four runs of their own to tie the game 4-4 but the Tigers scored a pair in the bottom of the second to go back on top, 6-4.
The Wolverines took the lead in the top of the third inning when they scored three runs to go up 7-6 but again the Darlington tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third, 7-7.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Tigers regained the lead with a run, going up 8-7 and then neither team was able to score again. Darlington took the first game of the series 8-7.
Jake Harris had two hits, two RBI’s and scored a run while Jax Guinn also had two hits and one RBI to lead the Wolverines.
Parker Hill pitched six innings giving up eight runs, only four earned, walking six and striking out three and took the loss.

On Thursday, March 28, the Wolverines hosted the Tigers in the second game of the series.
Darlington scored a run in the top of the first inning to take the lead 1-0 and followed that by scoring in every inning, dominating the Wolverines.
After scoring three in the second the Tigers scored six in the third to go up 10-0. They added three more runs in the fourth making the score 13-0.
The Wolverines managed their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth and Darlington scored one in the fifth to make it 14-1. Dade County failed to score in the fifth and the game ended on the run rule.
The Tigers had 14 hits in the game, all singles.
Guinn had a pair of hits for the Wolverines while Mason Gatlin took the loss with Kaiden Hubbard pitching two innings of relief.

Dade County closed out the Darlington series on Friday, March 29, when they traveled back to Rome.
The Wolverines took the lead in the top of the first when they scored one run and then held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the first.
Darlington got things rolling in the bottom of the second however, scoring six to take the lead 6-1.
Dade managed another run in the top of the third to make it 6-2 but the Tigers put the game away in the fourth when they scored eight runs to go up 14-2.
The Wolverines managed two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 14-4 but the game ended on the run rule.
Guinn again led the Wolverines at the plate getting one hit and scoring three runs. Harris had a hit and one RBI.
River McBryar took the loss pitching two innings and Guinn pitched the final two innings.

This week the Wolverines hosted the Pepperell Dragons on Tuesday, April 2. They will travel to Pepperell on Thursday and host them again on Friday, April 4. Tuesday and Friday’s games are set for 5:30 p.m. while the Thursday game starts at 5:45 p.m.
