The Dade County Wolverine basketball team hosted the Coosa Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 5, in a Region 7 game that will play a big part in who will eventually advance to the state tournament at the end of the season.

These early season match-ups may seem unimportant, but these early wins can have a big impact on the final outcome of the season.

The two teams got off to a good start with Dade County falling behind by eight points after just three possessions as the Eagles came out hot.

But, just as quickly, Dade County got hot and tied the game at 8-8.

The Wolverines did not stop there, and by the end of the first quarter, they began to take control and led 16-13.

The second quarter was just as competitive with both teams shooting well. Dade hit five three-point shots, three by Conner Wilburn and two by Braydan Jones to build an eight-point lead at the end of the first half, 33-25.

It was all Wolverines in the second half as they completely dominated the game, outscoring the visiting Coosa 14-6 in the third quarter to build their lead to 47-31.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles managed just one point as the Wolverines continued to score points and came away with an impressive 59-32 win.

Shrader led Dade County with 21 points, 12 of those coming in the first quarter, while Conner Wilburn scored 17 as they coasted to victory.

The Wolverines traveled to Summerville last Friday night and faced the Chattooga Indians in another key Region 7 game.

The two teams got off to somewhat of a slow start with the Indians taking the early lead 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Dade County struggled to make shots in the second quarter, while Chattooga was picking up the pace and by the end of the first half had built a 12 point lead, 30-18.

The Wolverines seemed to get it together during halftime and came out shooting the ball much better, outscoring the Indians 15-7, and cut the lead to four points, 37-33.

The Indians dominated the fourth quarter, however, outscoring the Wolverines 25-13 to come away with the big region win, 62-46.
Wilburn led Dade County with 14 points and Shrader was close behind with 13.

This week, the Wolverines are busy with three games – the first was at Berean on Tuesday, at Oakwood Christian on Thursday, and at home on Friday, Dec. 15 against Sale Creek.
