The Dade County Wolverine basketball team traveled to Jasper, Tenn., on Tuesday, Nov. 19, to face the Marion County Warriors. Dade County was at full force since football ended and they were ready for battle.
Both teams got off to a slow start, scoring just 11 points each in the first quarter. Most of the Wolverines were adjusting to the transition from football.
The second quarter would be more of the same as they took a three-point lead, outscoring Marion County eight to five and leading at the end of the first half, 19-16.
The second half was much better for both teams as Dade put up 17 points while the Warriors managed 13 and cut the Wolverines’ lead to 36-29. Dade County fell behind early in the third quarter 27-23 but went on an 11-2 run and never looked back.
The game remained close the entire fourth quarter as Dade maintained its lead but were never able to pull away from the Warriors. In the end, the Wolverines pulled out the win, 53-44, over a Marion County team.
Ben Williams and Conner Wilburn led the Wolverines with 13 points each. Junior Bryson Shrader was close behind with 10 points.
The Wolverines hosted Oakwood Christian on Tuesday, Nov. 28, in their first home game of the season and then open region play on Friday, Dec. 1 when they travel to Pepperell High School to face the Dragons. Dade County will be back at home on Tuesday, Dec. 5, to face the Eagles of Coosa in another region game. All game times are 7:30 p.m.
