The Dade County Wolverine basketball team opened the 2023-2024 season last week when they traveled to Section, Ala., to face the Lions of Section High School.
The Wolverines were short-handed as several of their players were still playing football so they played the game with only one player with much varsity experience.
Dade County faced a good shooting Section team that got off to a fast start while the Wolverines were trying to find their way. At the end of the first quarter, we trailed 23-11.
The Wolverines were ice cold in the second quarter shooting the ball; managing only three points, and trailed at the end of the first half, 41-14.
Dade County came out and played much better in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 16-8, and cut the lead to 49-28.
They went ice cold in the fourth quarter however; scoring only two points and fell to the host Lions 66-32.
Conner Wilburn, the only starter from last year available for the game, led Dade County with 20 points, hitting three 3’s in the process.
The Wolverines were scheduled to play at Marion County, Tenn., on Tuesday, Nov. 21, and then be off for the Thanksgiving holiday. The team will resume play Nov. 28 when they host Oakwood Christian.
