The Dade County Public Library’s annual summer reading kick-off event was a grand success. As usual, the “Touch-A-Truck” event was a crowd pleaser.
Local law enforcement officers and first responders showed kids their vehicles and equipment, and young citizens learned about the Trenton Police Department, Dade County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Services, and Dade County fire departments.
Families participated in other activities inside the library, won prizes through raffles, and played a game of find the paintbrush. The summer reading events continue through July 24, and the library uses these events and reading challenges to help stem the “summer slide”—learning loss that happens when kids are out of school.
