A.W. BUTLER
A.W. Butler, 74, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Jan.13, 2025.
He was born on May 16, 1950, to the late Loyd Butler and Frances Brown and was retired from M&M Industries. A.W. was of the Baptist faith.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gene Butler.
Survivors include his sisters, Barbara Withrow, Carolyn Crittenden, and Elizabeth Lingerfelt; brothers, Lester, Marvin, and Greg Brown.
Private graveside service will be held at Payne’s Chapel UMC Cemetery on Lookout Mountain.

MITZI DEAN
Mitzi Dean, a cherished resident of Crystal River Health and Rehab, passed away at the health care facility in Crystal River, Fla., on Jan.9, 2025.
Mitzi was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and spent much of her life as a resident of Dade County. She was a 1975 graduate of Dade County High School. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and dogs and her work as a massage therapist. Mitzi was known for her spunky personality, infectious laugh, and deep love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy S. and Sylvia Ann Britt Wilson; brothers, Gary Wilson and Kurtis Wilson; sister, Tamera Wilson.
Mitzi is survived by her sons, Tom Benson and Beau Mogle; granddaughter, Lydia Benson; sister, Geri “Mimi” Wilson.

Graveside memorial services will be Thursday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m., in the main pavilion at Forest Hills Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tenn.

JAMES GASS
James Ottis Gass, 82, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025.
James was known for his fun-loving spirit and the warmth he extended to everyone he met. He dedicated many years to Soloff Construction, taking pride in building movie theaters and ensuring his family was well taken care of. He enjoyed time spent with friends during his daily breakfast outings at local restaurants. James was a member of Masonic Lodge #179 and the Shriners. His greatest joy came from being with his family.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Reeves Gass; son, Jamie Gass; parents, Herman and Novella Gass; and siblings, Kenneth Gass, Bryan Gass, Dana Cagle, Sheila Spurgeon, Carolyn Wooten, and Gloria Weathers.
Survivors include his sons, Tim (Jennifer) Gass, Mark (Alisa) Gass, and Shane (Sandy) Gass; sisters, Delene (Bob) Ervin and Brenda (Jackie) Smith; grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey (Courtney), Christian (Heather), Bailey, Luke, Nick, Sophie, Amanda, and Melissa; great-grandchildren, Kimber and Boone.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Shane Cloud officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

MIKE STEELE
Michael “Mike” David Steele, 69, of Hixson, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Mike was born Dec. 27, 1955, in Fort Oglethorpe to the late Ronald “Cubie” Carpenter Steele and Shirley Durham. He was a 1974 Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School graduate, where he excelled in athletics. His personality was a blend of quiet strength and an outgoing spirit, endearing him to many who had the pleasure of knowing him. After high school, Mike served his country with honor in the United States Navy and later built a fulfilling career in maintenance and grounds keeping.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Jerome Steele; grandparents, Carl and Dalpha Steele and Gordon and Carzell Durham.
Survivors include his brothers, Ron (Paulette) and Tony (Carol) Steele; step-mother, Barbara Steele; step-sister, Jessica (Clayton) Coots; cousins and extended family members.

LYNDA STONER
Lynda Faye Stoner, 78, of Rossville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025.
Lynda was born on July 2, 1946, to the late Rev. L.W. and Dawn Carter and was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Rossville High School and retired from Blood Assurance following 15 years of service.
In addition to her parents, Lynda was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Ray “Dick” Stoner; son, Michael Shane Stoner; brother, Clarence Carter, Jr.
Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Audrey (Joe) Murray of Lookout Mountain, Betty Chastain of Chickamauga, and Phyllis Stoner of Rossville; brother-in-law, Tom (Andrea) Stoner of Rossville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 20, at Payne’s Chapel United Methodist Church on Lookout Mountain. Interment was in the church cemetery.

PHILLIP UNDERWOOD
Phillip Underwood, 60, of Hixson, Tenn., formerly of Red Bank, Tenn., passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.
Phillip attended Dade County High School and worked in HVAC before doing handyman services.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Neva Underwood of Trenton; siblings, Pat (Don) Whited, David Underwood, Jeff Underwood, Sandy (Wayne) Gann, Donna “K” Underwood, and Dale Underwood; nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan, 16, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Randy Tinker officiating. Interment was in Shantytown Cemetery.

HUGH DON WALLIN
Hugh Don Wallin, 90, of Rising Fawn, passed away Saturday, Jan.18, 2025.
Mr. Wallin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wallin; daughter, Dianne Wallin; parents, Charlie and Ruby Wallin; siblings, Emma Lee Powell, Pauline Bradford, Roy Wallin, Louise Wallace, Eloise Wallin, Bob Wallin, and Clyde Wallin.
Survivors include his daughter, Jo Ann Roden; brothers, Terry Wallin and Bill Wallin; grandchildren, Adam (Cheyenne) Roden, Luke Roden, Jessie Wallin, and Justin (Amanda) Wallin, all of Rising Fawn; 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; nieces amd nephews.
Funeral services will be today, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Thomas Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in Hanna Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

SHIRLEY WEST
Shirley Mae West, 85, of Bryant, Ala., passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025.
Shirley dedicated many years to her profession as a hairdresser before retiring from JC Penney. Her wonderful humor and love for life brought joy to everyone who knew her. She cherished the time spent with her family and enjoyed caring for her yard and garden. She was also a member of the Mountain View Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hayward West; parents, Leon and Thena Overby; brothers, Ray and Doug Overby.
Survivors include her son, Joseph Duane (Angela) West; granddaughters, Alyssa and Alyson West.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Brad Bridges and Brother Steve Townson officiating. Interment was at Poplar Springs Cemetery.
