Multiple Accidents, Two Fatalities Last Week

Last week (especially Tuesday and Wednesday) proved treacherous for motorists and resulted in several tragedies. Dec. 17 began with an early morning wreck on I-24 between I-59 and the Wildwood exit. An overturned semi blocked both lanes, but no fatalities were reported.
Late that morning, a 29-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Lula Lake Road on Lookout Mountain. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office told “The Chattanoogan” that while traveling north, the driver lost control of his vehicle due to the wet road in the midst of a curve. The vehicle hit a guardrail, rolled over, and the top of the vehicle struck a tree.
Early that afternoon, there was a single-vehicle accident on GA-136 on Lookout Mountain with an entrapment, but no fatality was reported.
Then, on the evening of Dec. 17, an accident involving a motorcycle and van occurred in front of the Trenton Mapco. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover.
On the evening of Dec. 18, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on GA-136 near the top of Sand Mountain. The pedestrian, an elderly female, died. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident which happened in front of the old barber shop about half a mile from the crossroads.
