FREDDIE COLE
Freddie W. “Poppie” Cole, 77, of Whiteside, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.
Mr. Cole was born Jan. 21, 1947, to the late Johnnie and Frances Cole in Sumiton, Ala. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a proud member of IAMAW. Freddie served as secretary of the Hale Town Volunteer Fire Department and was retired from the Putnam County School System of Palatka, Fla., and Sherman and Reilly of Chattanooga.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne and Larry; and sister, Janice.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Edith Sherrill Cole; sons, Eddie (Catherine) Cole, Jeffrey Cole, and James (Susan) Cole; brother, Jimmy Cole; sister, Vicki Hamilton; grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Destiny, Jeremiah, Isiah, India, Malachi, Wesley, Doug, Lacey, Christina, James, Jonathan, and Amber; great-grandchildren, Asher, Maverick, Sutton, Zayden, and Jay.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 1, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Donnie Moreland officiating. Military honors were presented by American Legion Post #106. Interment was in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

DRAYTON CORRIHER
Drayton Kane Corriher, 23, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Drayton put his faith and trust in Christ at the age of 14. He was a 2020 graduate of Dade County High School and was employed with Hardline Construction.
Survivors include his parents, Heather and Benjamin Corriher of Trenton; sister, Dorothy Corriher; grandparents, Shelia West, Donald Swader, Robert and Rita Corriher; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 4, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Jones officiating. Interment was in Brown’s Gap Cemetery.

SYLVIA GILES
Sylvia Laverne Giles, 79, of Flat Rock, Ala., passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024.
Sylvia was retired from Sather’s Inc. of Chattanooga, Tenn., following 25-plus years of service and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Harve Giles; parents, Orban and Evelyn Dotson; siblings, Barbara Pankey, Sidney Dotson, Shelia Lambert, and William “Billy Ray” Dotson.
Survivors include her children, Benny (Denise) Giles of Flat Rock, Ala., and Paula (Eric) Brown of Ider, Ala.; grandchildren, Heather (Tyler) Taylor, Hayle (Clay) Townley, Mayce (Jared) Gilbert, and Luke Brown; great-grandchildren, Channing Taylor and Charlotte Townley; brother, James (Linda) Dotson; sister, Wanda Farmer; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be today, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. James Dotson and Bro. Ronnie Dotson officiating. Interment will follow in Payne’s Gap Cemetery.

BOBBY GLOVER
Bobby Alfred Glover, 65, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
Born Dec. 12, 1958, Bobby was known for his warm spirit, generous heart, and a zest for life. Bobby was a passionate cook who also loved gardening and tending to his yard. Bobby was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Marie Stokes Glover.
Survivors include his brother, Larry Glover; nieces and nephews: Matthew (Lisa) Glover, Holly (Andy) Hamilton, and Ashlee Glover; great-nieces, Anna Hamilton and Grace Glover.
A graveside service was Sunday, Oct. 27 at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Bryant, Ala.

DOROTHY HIGDON
Dorothy Lawson Higdon, 81, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.
Dorothy was an avid reader and flower gardener. Her yard was a beautiful testament to her green thumb, blooming with vibrant flowers that reflected her nurturing spirit. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she cherished her family deeply, sharing an especially close bond with her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Magby Gap Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. Higdon; parents, George and Mary Belle Fisher Lawson; siblings, George Lawson Jr., Ernest Lawson, Amos Lawson, David Lawson, Leonard Lawson, Hattie Winn, Mary Hodge, Leona Higdon, and Orianna Bible.
Survivors include her daughters, Dena (Johnny Whiddon) Pierce and Wendy (Amaury Lopez) Parrott; granddaughter, Schaleigh (Logan) Holt; great-grandchildren, Weston Pierce, Coralie Holt, and Orianna Holt; brother, Clifford Lawson.

DAVID OGLESBY
David Wayne Oglesby, 66, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2024.
David was a dedicated and hardworking man who retired as a journeyman electrician. He loved the great outdoors, often spending his time fishing and boating. David was an avid sports fan. David loved his family deeply and took great pride in his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He also served his country in the United States Army.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lorraine Oglesby; sister, Sheila Foe.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jan Oglesby; sons, Bobby and James Oglesby; grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Oglesby, Tristan Oglesby, and Elizabeth Oglesby; great-granddaughter, Hazel Marie Oglesby; siblings, James Arthur Oglesby, Phyllis Schultze, Lisa Oglesby, Rosa Henshaw, and Carolyn Lynell Oglesby-Gulley.

KASEY PETERS
Kasey Atkinson Peters, 66, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024.
She was born Sunday, Nov. 1, 1957, in Charleston, W.V. to Charles (“Charlie”) and Jeanne (Vance) Atkinson. In 1958, Kasey moved with her parents to Jacksonville Beach, Fla. The family joined Beach United Methodist Church where they were active members for nearly 50 years. An avid supporter of the church in a variety of ways, Kasey was especially dedicated to attending Sunday School, taking part in the youth group, playing on the church adult bowling league, serving as a communion steward, teaching vacation bible school, participating in the activities of the United Methodist Women organization for which she served on the Executive Board and as President in the early 1980s, attending bible studies, singing in the choir, and playing handbells. Later, Kasey attended Palms Presbyterian Church where she was honored to serve as a deacon and volunteered for the No One Dies Alone organization. Beach United Methodist Church was also where Kasey met David Peters in 1972. They married in May of 1977. As a community volunteer, Kasey served at the local soup kitchen and ran sound for recitals at the Thelma Miller School of Dance. She consistently supported the Humane Society, Forever Home, Saving Grace, and many other animal rescue organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, David; daughters, Katie Myers (Adam) and Rebecca “Becky” Mendez (Manny); grandchildren, Gabriel Myers and Nichole, Jamilyn, and James Mendez; extended family.
A private service will be held at her home in Trenton officiated by Rev. Katie Day of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society, Mastering Love Rescue and Sanctuary, or Luck’s Rescue.

TERRY SMITH
Terry Smith, 80, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 16, 1943, in Long Island, Ala., he was the son of the late Rile and Francis Whitt Smith. Terry served his country for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, where he was a decorated Vietnam veteran. After retiring from military service, he established and operated Terry’s Painting and Home Repair, where he was known for his skill and professionalism. He was an avid car enthusiast and loved restoring automobiles and selling them to others. He was also a devoted Alabama football fan. His Christian faith played a significant role in his life, and he was a former member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Terry was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Jim, and Jerry Smith.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen (Corby) Davis of Marion, S.C.; sisters, Glenda Woods of Bryant, Ala., and Joyce Shields of Cartersville; granddaughter, Shantley (Conner) Lawson.
Interment was at Twin City Memorial Gardens in Loris, S.C.

FRED STEPHENSON
Fred Thomas Stephenson, 86, of Lookout Mountain, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.
Mr. Stephenson was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Four Oaks (Johnston County) N.C., to the late James Thomas and Beatrice Langdon Stephenson. He was an alumni of Virginia Military Institute, class of 1961, and is honored on the VMI Wall of Valor. During 20 years of service in the U.S. Army and three tours in Vietnam, he was awarded numerous medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star and 3 Bronze Service Stars, Air Medal with 29th Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). As an Army Aviator, he flew the Cessna O-1 Bird Dog and the Grumman OV-1 Mohawk. After retiring as a Major, he became a Flight Simulator Instructor, training pilots in the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, Bell UH-1 “Huey,” and the Boeing AH-64 Apache. As a man with a strong Christian faith, Mr. Stephenson ministered in churches through music and guitar, especially to senior adults who were homebound and those in assisted living facilities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel Gray Stephenson Creech and Don Walton Stephenson.
Survivors include wife of 62 years, Sara Kathryn Gunter Stephenson; daughter, Margaret Ellen (Richard) Lukens; grandchildren, Joshua Thomas Lukens, Katherine Alyse Lukens, and Rachel Anne Lukens; sister, LaRue Stephenson Whitley; nieces, Deborah Creech Dupree, Victoria Ewing Brosseau, and Rebecca Ewing; nephews, Tim Creech, William Ray “Billy” Creech and Gunter Scott Lawler; sisters-in-law, Nancy Gunter Lawler and Francine Stephenson.
Graveside services were Thursday, Oct.31, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Ed Salter officiating. Full military honors were presented by American Legion Post #106.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov.10, at 4 p.m. at Rock Creek Fellowship, 5209 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain.
