I, Steve Forester, am announcing my candidacy as a Republican in the upcoming primary for the District 4 seat on the Dade County School Board. I grew up in the Head River community of Lookout Mountain and currently reside there. I attended Dade County Schools from first through 12th grades, graduating in 1976.

I attended Jacksonville State University obtaining a B.S. Degree in Education (B.S. Ed.) and the University of West Georgia graduating with a Master’s Degree in Middle Grades Education (M.Ed.) as well as an Educational Specialist Degree (Ed. S.). I taught middle school students in Walker County retiring with an equivalent of 30 years at Chattanooga Valley.

My retirement coincided with my father’s declining health, bringing me back to Dade County. I was able to provide in-home care for him, and I began to take over the operation of his cattle farm, which eventually, for me, became a hay farm, and I maintain the property that has been in our family since around 1880.

I am active in Head River Baptist Church, where I have been a member since 1970, but have attended since my birth in 1958. I have held various leadership roles during those years.

In addition to my church affiliation, I am a member of the Tri-State Cattlemen’s Association, having served as a past board member, the Dade County Historical Society, the Dade County Library Board, and the Lookout Valley Baptist Association executive committee, serving as one of several directors.

Not ever having served in this type of public role, I may lack experience, but, if elected, I would serve with the same determination and integrity with which I approach all other endeavors and ask for your support in the upcoming primary. I pledge to do all within my power to support high academic standards for students and school personnel, to maintain quality learning and working environments, endeavor to make sure community connections are maintained while exercising good stewardship practices regarding federal, state, and local funding. Thank you for considering me as you cast your vote.
