JAMES BRUCE

James “Jimmy” Allen Bruce, 72, Higdon, Ala., passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2023.

Born on May 9, 1951, Jimmy was a kind-hearted individual and a beloved brother. He dedicated many years of service to Yate’s Bleachery in Flintstone before retiring. Jimmy had a special fondness for animals, particularly his dog Lucy. He also found joy in expressing himself through poetry.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June Downer Bruce; brother, Don Bruce; grandparents, Adell and James Dixie Downer; and nephew, Tommy Fiorellino.

Survivors include his siblings, David Bruce and Debra Bruce Fiorellino; aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

Graveside services were Monday, Jan. 1, at Payne Gap Cemetery in Flat Rock, Ala.

ROY MAHAN

Roy Thomas Mahan, 65, of Ider, Ala., passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024.

Born Oct. 2, 1958, Roy grew up in the New Salem area with his grandparents. On May 4, 1980, he married Ivy Renea Mashburn and together they raised four children.  He was a truck driver with Saia Trucking for many years and was a faithful member of Griffin Holiness Church.  He loved his family, hunting, fishing, gardening, and his dog, Cutter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Renea; brother, Tim Powell; grandparents, Raymond and Pearl Mahan.

Survivors include his children, Matt (Heather) Mahan, Josh (Erica) Mahan, Mackenzie (Alicia) Mahan, and Miranda (Evan) Clayton; mother, June Gravitt; sisters, Kellie (Kenny) Wilson, Becky (David) Birchfield, and Jan (Tim) Brooks; grandchildren, Landen Mahan, Kinzlee Mahan, Dawson Mahan, Jacob Mahan, Lila Clayton, and Sophia Clayton; extended family members.

Funeral services are today, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m., EST in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m., until the service hour.

JOYCE MINNICK

Joyce Minnick, 83, of Lookout Valley, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023.

She was born Dec. 5, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late Malcolm and Willie Case and was a member of Valley Memorial Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and sewing.

Mrs. Minnick was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joseph Minnick; son, David E. Minnick; and brother, Buddy Case.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Stacy) Minnick, and Gary A. (Christi) Minnick; grandchildren, Michael J. Minnick and Britney Moore; great-grandchildren, Connor Bohanon and Addley Moore; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was Saturday, Jan. 6, at Lookout Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Walliser and Rev. Garry Jared officiating.

MARJORIE NEELY

Marjorie Morgan Neely, 92, of Hixson, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024.

Marjorie graduated from Central High School, Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1949 and then from Edmondson Business College. She was a stenographer at Western Mutual Life before retiring from the Wildwood Post Office with 30 years of service, 28 of those years being Post Master. She was a member of Wauhatchie Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, in a trio and served in many other volunteer roles in the church. She married Frank Neely on Nov. 24, 1955. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage before his death in Nov. 2021. Marjorie also enjoyed playing the piano and cooking.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents, Fred A. and Pauline Morgan; brother, Freddie Morgan; sisters, Lauretta Marona and Martha Ann Akins; great-niece Morgan Sigler.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Gary) Holsted; grandsons, Andy (Tosha) and Alex (Elizabeth) Holsted; grandchildren, Eden, Ollie, Evy, Addie, Finley and Austyn Holsted.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 12, 5-7 p.m., at Ryan’s Funeral Home in Trenton.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, a funeral procession will begin at Ryan’s Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m., and travel down Highway 11 past Marjorie’s homeplace, by the Wildwood Post Office and onto Old Birmingham Highway past her home in Wildwood. The procession will then continue to Wauhatchie Methodist Church. Any family and friends wishing to join this procession are welcome to meet at Ryan’s Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m.

Visitation at Wauhatchie Methodist Church, 3401 Cummings Highway, Chattanooga, Tenn., will be Saturday, Jan. 13, from noon until 1 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., at the church with Pastor Tommy Messer officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West, 3809 Cummings Road, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Andy Holsted, Alex Holsted, Michael Morgan, Earl Marona, Justin Sigler and Allan Sigler

Special thanks to Dominion Senior Living of Hixson, especially nurses and resident assistants, and to Cardiologist Dr. Allison Bailey. Also, thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga – Chattanooga team led by L’Tonya Simpson and Amber Trojo.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wauhatchie Methodist Church, 3401 Cummings Highway, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37419, The American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

STEVEN REEVES

Steven Douglas Reeves, 39, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023.

Steven was born on May 16, 1984.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wade Reeves.

Survivors include his spouse, Annesia Reeves; mother, Donna Reeves; sisters, Mona (Clay) Trowell, of Pooler, and Christi (D.J.) Giles, Trenton; brother, Todd (Rachel) Reeves, Argyle, Texas; grandmother, Joyce Cooper, Bridgeport, Ala.; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life was held Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Ryan Funeral Home chapel.
