Obituaries – Jan. 3rd Issue


William “Bill” Elton Emmett Jr., 71, of Ider, Ala., passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023.

Bill was born June 17, 1952, to Delorice Satterfield Morris and the late Elton Emmett. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to education and served as a valued teacher within the Dade County School system before retiring. He also spent several years as an adjunct professor at Northeast Alabama Community College.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Donna Beason Emmett; daughter, Glynne Emmett (David) Jones; unofficial daughter, Casey Grider; mother, Delorice Morris; brother, John (Betty) Emmett and their children and grandchildren; mother-in-law; Peggy Beason; sister-in-law; Darlene Beason; close friend and cousin; Gayle Wells; extended family members.

Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 28, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Interment was at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ider, Ala.

The family wants to say a special thank you to the DeKalb County First Responders for their kindness and assistance during this difficult time.

Wanda Ethel Stone, 81, of the West Brow community of Lookout Mountain, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023.

Wanda was born Dec.28, 1941, to the late William C. and Forestine Price. She had lived on Lookout Mountain the greater part of her life and was of the Holiness faith. She had worked as a caregiver for the elderly, but was well known for her painting abilities.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Franklin “Poodler” Stone; daughter, Rhonda Mitchell; son, Timothy Price; grandson, Dustin Veal; sisters, Carolyn Lingerfelt, Bill Hill, and Joan Johnson; brothers, Jake and Ronnie Price.

Survivors include her children, Marlene Mashburn, Marlon Stone, Jamie Stone, and Chris Stone; grandchildren, Colton Veal, Alicia Mitchell, Lebron Mitchell, Roger Williams, and Levi Stone; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Von Hill; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 29 at Griffin Holiness Church with Brother Wayne Guffey and Brother David Parker officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
