MICHAEL DODD

Michael James Dodd, 51, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Dec. 8, 2023.

Born to Clyde and Shonee “Sharon” Butler Dodd on Feb. 27, 1972, Michael was always known for his one-of-a-kind character and personality. His first love was basketball andd he played all through his school years. He loved being outdoors and was an avid fan of anything science-fiction related. Michael was a father, son, brother, and friend.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Dodd; brother, Robby Dodd; and sister, Shannon Dodd.

Survivors include his son, Hunter Dodd; mother, Sharon Dodd; brother, Nathan Dodd, aunt, Linda Lawson; great–nieces and nephews, Laina, Madison and Makenzie Dodd.

A Celebration of Life service is to be held at a later date.

JOYCE GRAY

Joyce Angelene Gray, 70, of the New Salem community on Lookout Mountain, passed away Sunday, Dec.1 7, 2023.

Joyce was born Nov.2, 1953, to the late Brockie and Verna Mae Ridley. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply. Joyce’s warm and affectionate nature endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Russell Gray Jr.; sister, Merion “Mert” Blevins.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Bobby Gray, Sr.; daughters, Melony (Robin) Baschnagel and Candice Gray (Alex Dowding); brothers, Allen, Danny and Roger Ridley; grandchildren, Garrett Gray (Sarah) Hayden, and Adalyn Dunnell, Ariya and Evie Dowding, Debra (Thomas) Stamos, Sara Gray, and Cody Baschangel; great-grandchildren, Riley Breedlove, Lydia, David and Elizabeth Stamos, and Barrett Gray; excitedly anticipating and soon to arrive, River Gray; extended family members.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m., at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Jim Blaylock officiating. Interment will be at Hawkins Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 11 a.m., until the service hour.

PATRICIA OLIVER

Patricia Ann Oliver, 79, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Dec.12, 2023.

She was born Nov. 9, 1944, to the late Mike and Pauline Lyles Hardinger. Pat was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister who held great affection for her family.

Survivors include her children Kurt, Melinda, Sam, and Mike (Jennifer) Oliver; eight grandchildren; brother, Mike (Pat) Hardinger; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 30, at noon in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m., until the service hour.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Dade Health and Rehab and Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassionate care during this difficult time.

KAY PARKER

Janice Kay Black Parker, 61, of Chickamauga, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10.

Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved traveling and was a member of the Holiness community. She was a phlebotomist for Erlanger Health Group.

In addition to her parents, John and Delma Lee York Black, Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Tim Parker Sr.; father-in-law, Billy Ray Parker of Chattanooga Tenn.; and niece, Deandra Shaver.

Survivors include her children, Kristi (Timothy) Voiles of Chickamauga, Timothy (Natasha) Parker, II of Trenton, and Brittany (Andrew) Cardin of New Market, Ala.; grandchildren, Allyson Parker, Cannon Voiles, Anniston Parker, Lincoln Voiles, Callie Voiles, Benjamin Parker, and Audrey and Asher Cardin; brother, Aubrey Black of Lookout Mountain; sister, Annette Anderson of Flat Rock, Ala.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Mark Finlayson, Rev. Bobby House, and Rev. Aaron Wooten officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Aubrey Black II, Cody Black, Darvin York, Greg York, D.J. Case, and Terry York.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who provided dedicated care for Kay: LaShawn Bailey; Kelli Hinkle; Debbie Finlayson, the staff of Hearth Hospice, and to her dear late friend Crystal Adkins.

JACOB SCOTT

Jacob Tanner Scott, 21, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Jacob was a 2019 graduate of Dade County High School and was employed by Vanguard.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eddie Scott; step-grandfather, Cecil Payne.

Survivors include his mother, Lisa (William) Payne of Chatsworth; father, Mark Scott, Trenton; brothers, Ethan Scott, Cade Scott, and Grayson Kelley; sister, Katelyn Scott; two step-sisters, Alyssa Payne and Sheena Payne; grandmothers, Mary Miller and Linda Scott; grandfather, Rick Cloud; nieces and nephews.

JANELL SPIVEY

Janell York Spivey, 78, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.

Born Feb. 25, 1945, in Flat Rock, Ala., to the late Olen and Lura Adams York, Janell was a loving daughter, sister, and friend. In 1964, she found lifelong happiness when she married the love of her life, Hermon Spivey. She loved to garden, can the bounty from her gardens and sew. Janell was a member of Shiloh Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to her parents, Janell was preceded in death by her sister, Shelia (Charles) Wilbanks; brother-in-law, Charles Hawkins.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Hermon Spivey; sons, Labron (Kay) Spivey and Chris (May) Spivey; brothers, Dennis (Barbra) York, Terry (Patricia) York, and Randall (Cynthia) York; sister, Hilda (Toby) Smith; grandchildren, Courtney Spivey, Caillou (Ashley) Spivey, Sarah Spivey, and Crystal Spivey; step-grandchildren, Carl (Stephanie) Wall and Corey Wall; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec.16, at Shiloh Church of the Nazarene with Brother Wayland Stewart officiating. Interment was at Payne Gap Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her nurse, Ashley Hulgan of Amedysis, her nurses Heather and Deb of Hospice of Alabama, and the many other helpful staff members for their compassionate care of Janell during her last days.

DORIS SMITH

Doris Ann Smith, 82, of Ider, Ala., passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023.

Mrs. Smith attended East Brow Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ritchie and Hazel Loftis Dent; son, Gregory Kenneth Wood; brothers, Allen and Johnny Dent.

Survivors include her daughters, Kim (Jeremy Smith) Boatner of Trenton, and Missy (Michael) Collins of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; grandchildren, Whitney Boatner, Greg Wood, Brandon Wood, Makayla Collins, Rileigh Collins, and Brogan Collins; great-grandchildren, Aiden Wood and Delaney Boatner; sisters, Margaret Dodd and Faye Roach; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was Thursday, Dec.14th at the East Brow Baptist Church, Flat Rock, Ala.

JUANITA STEELE

Juanita Deloris “Dee” Steele, 80, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2023.

Mrs. Steele was born to the late James Donald and Ruby Tatum of Rising Fawn.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Sue Moore, Buddy Tatum, and Ann Cook.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Gary Steele; daughter, Terri Steele; granddaughter, Jessica Woosley Clark (Matthew James Clark); grandson, Jordan Woosley; sister, Kay Hartline; nieces and nephews including Audrey and Larry Bishop, Cammie and Billy Bain, Tony Burton, Troy and Kristen Cook, and Ted Cook.
