WANDA COUCH

Elwanda Harriod Couch, 69, of Gaylesville, Ala., passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.

Wanda was born on April 15, 1954, in Arab, Ala., to the late James and Louella Sharp Harriod. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt throughout her life. Wanda cherished the precious moments spent with her grandbabies. She also enjoyed fishing and cheering for the Alabama football team.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Couch; and brothers Max Sharp and Ed Harriod.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda McMaster; sister, Virginia Graham of Lookout Valley, Tenn.; brothers, William, Lee, and Edgar (Michelle) Harriod of Lookout Valley, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is today, Nov. 22, at noon, at Hooker Cemetery.

ROBERT JOHNSON

Robert Terrell Johnson, 76, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.

Robert was born March 1, 1947, to the late Durward and Mamie Neocia Brannon Johnson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who know him. Robert retired from Combustion Engineering where he worked as a Nuclear Quality Engineer. He was devoted to his family and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and maintaining his lawn.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Gary Johnson; sisters, Betty Jane Ross and Wanda Tallent.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Johnson; children, Denise (Lynn) Croft, and Larry (Tammy) Johnson; sister, Charlotte Lynn; grandchildren, Candace (Wes) Abercrombie, Brandon (Rachel) Wooten, Christian (Morgan) Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jacob (Sydney) Croft, Jarrett (Valerie) Croft, and Leah Bell; great-grandchildren, Landon Abercrombie, Noah Abercrombie, Riley Kate Wooten, Kalan Wooten, Luke Johnson, and Jersey Croft; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Billy Brandon and Brother Ronnie Brown officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens in Trenton.

The family would like to thank the entire staff from Tapestry Hospice as well as the Avans and Brandon families for their compassionate care during Robert’s final days.

MERIL SCRUGGS

Meril Frances Wallin Scruggs, 84, of Rising Fawn, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023.

Mrs. Scruggs was of the Church of God faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Scruggs; parents, Author and Minnie Lee Wallin; sisters, Ruth, Jack, Tiny, Faye and Bea; brother, Harold Wesley Wallin; son, William Lee Scruggs, Jr.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Lee (Ginger) Scruggs; brother, Grady (Martha Ann) Wallin, all of Rising Fawn; grandchildren, Jerry Lee Scruggs, Tina Roden, and Gina Gannaway; great-grandchildren, Julie, Shania, Rooster, Kaci, Aly, Serenity, Caiden, Mia, and Grace.

Graveside services were Saturday, Nov. 18 at Hartline Cemetery with Rev. Chris Hagler officiating.

MARIE STANCEL

Marie McMahan Stancel, 83, of Rising Fawn, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023.

She was a devoted mother and loved her entire family so much. Marie was a member of Rising Fawn Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Kelly Stancel and Bodi Bowen; parents, George and Pallie McMahan; brothers, Roy, Burr, Smokey, and Carl McMahan; sisters, Estella Simmons and Junella Fisher; grandson, Lance Bowen.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Kay Houston, Rainsville, Ala.; sons, Bookie (Evelyn) Bowen, Trenton, Randy (Vickie) Bowen, Higdon, Ala., Eddie (Ginger) Bowen, Trenton, and Johnny (Becky) Bowen, Sulphur Springs, Ala.; sisters, Pauline (Chick) McCarty, Rising Fawn, and JoAnn (Roland) Durham, Trenton; brothers, Doug McMahan, Valley Head, Ala., George (Lynn) McMahan, Trenton, and Buckshot McMahan, Ft. Payne, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer Liles, Rodney Bowen, Chancie West, Branson Bowen, Treble Lewis, Breanna Houston, and Tristan Bowen; great-grandchildren, Kaylea and Nolan Liles; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 18 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Goff and Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Interment was in Hanna Cemetery, Rising Fawn.

MAKAYLA WHITT

Makayla Ann Nicole Whitt, 25, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Nov.16, 2023.

Makayla was born Dec. 25, 1997. She will be remembered for her outgoing nature, kind heart, and selflessness. She always prioritized the needs of others before her own. Makayla found joy in music and drawing, which brought creativity and inspiration to her life.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Brenda Newton, Theresa Pike, and Bigs McGlamery; uncle, Jared Cooper.

Survivors include her children, Braxton, Braylin, and Bentley; parents, Zeke and Cheryl McGlamery; brothers, Tyler (Kristin) Hicks and Collen McGlamery; grandfather, Coy Newton; aunts and uncles, Kim Griffith, Carlene and Ron, Darlene and Jim, Dee and Alan, and Melissa Stephens; special aunt Kathy Judge nephew Shane Dent.

A graveside service will be today, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m., at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home.
