PALLIE BUTLER

Pallie Butler, 64, of Rising Fawn, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

Pallie was a Child of God and was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathan and Juanella Ruth Butler; brother, Daniel “Danny” Butler.

Survivors include her son, Billy Jearin (Patty) Butler; grandchildren, Tristen and Avery Butler; siblings, Ronnie “Buck” McMahan, Ruby Butler, and Leon (Michele) Butler; nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

BETTY DURHAM

Betty Smith Durham, 87, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023.

Mrs. Durham was married to the late Rev. A. C. Durham in 1952 and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. A woman of many talents, she loved painting and cooking and was a great seamstress. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 42 years, before joining Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Rock Spring.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2019; parents, Grady and Velma Smith; brother, Martin Smith; and sister, Verna West.

Survivors include her children, Marsha (Bruce) Case, Trenton, Denise (Newt, Jr.) Palmer of Rising Fawn, and Sharon (Tommy) Castleberry of Trenton; grandchildren, Shane (Mandy) Cloud, Heath (Patricia) Cloud, Wesley Palmer, Rachel Lynch, Cru (Amanda) Palmer, Seth (Tiffany) Castleberry, and Adam Castleberry; great-grandchildren, Rebecca (Garrett) Hill, Samantha Cloud, Ethan Cloud, Skyler (Trevor) Stevens, Kainen Palmer, Xander Lynch, Raylan Palmer, Shelby Palmer, Paige Castleberry, and Corbin Castleberry; great-great-grandchildren, Adaline and Everly Hill; several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Hearth Hospice, especially Crystal and Brandi, for their care during this difficult time.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 14, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Shane Cloud officiating.  Burial was in Payne Cemetery, Trenton.

HENRY HILLIARD

Henry Sturgeon Hilliard, 80, of Trenton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023.

Henry was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Gainesville, Fla. He lived a fulfilling life, dedicated to his craft as an electrician and retired from Covenant College after many years of service. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Henry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

In addition to the parents, Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Emma Byers Hilliard; mother, Billie Marie Kuykendahl; father, John Bernice Hilliard; and brother, Vance Hilliard.

Survivors include his daughter, Dee Hilliard; son, Ralph Hilliard; brother, John Hilliard; step-sons, Mitchell (Regina) Moore and Adam (Beth) Moore; and grandchildren, Joshuah, Sara, and Gracie Hilliard and Connor, Kayden, and Kayci Moore.

A graveside service will be today, Sept. 20, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery at 2 p.m., with Brother Jim Blaylock officiating the service. The Honor Guard from American Legion Post 106 will perform military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 106 in Trenton, GA.

JIMMY HURST

Jimmy Hurst, 64, of Ider, Ala.,, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

Jimmy was retired from Synthetic Industries following 25 years of dedicated service. Better known as Papaw, he was an avid fisherman, hard worker, great brother, dad, and best friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Lee Holland Hurst and his aunt who took him in and raised him, Nanny.

Survivors include his children, Amanda (Will) Williams, Chad (Emily) Hurst, Brad (Cori) Hurst, and Brandon Hurst; grandchildren, Veronica (Ian) Peoples, Kindra (Taylor) Farmer, Camron Farmer, Phoenix Hurst, Brooklynn Hurst, Addison Hurst, and Cayden Hurst; great-grandchildren, Rylee Peoples, and Zackary Gordy; siblings, Kelsey (Sharon) Hurst, Glenda “Sissy” (Ronald) Swader, Ricky Hurst, and Janie Crane; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 17, in the funeral home chapel with Anthony Disheroon officiating.  Interment was in Ford Cemetery.

ALVIN LONG

Otis Alvin Long, 86, of Trenton, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2023.

Alvin was born to the late Paul and Virgie Gass Long on Jan. 25, 1937. He was a mechanic by trade and worked many years at the Dade County Transfer Station. Alvin enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s various sporting events. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan.

In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Long; brothers, Otto and Allen Long; and sister, Pauline Sanders.

Survivors include his daughters, Kendra (Jason) Sharp and Kecia Guffey and Matthew Guffey; brother, David Long; grandchildren, Grayson (Katelyn Connar) Sharp, Garrett (Josie) Sharp, Ashton (Blake) Saylors, and Abby Guffey.

Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 17, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Eddie Cantrell officiating. Burial was at Baptist Cemetery in Trenton.

THELMA TRASK

Thelma Case Trask, 96, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023.

Thelma was born in Trenton on March 18, 1927. She was born again in July of 1964. She and James M. (Tubby) Case were married in 1948. She was mother of six children, grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 24 and great-great-grandmother of four. Thelma loved gardening and being outside. She enjoyed sharing her love of the Lord with everyone and especially loved working in children’s ministry. She led Good News Clubs at her home for Child Evangelism Fellowship and worked with Calvary Baptist Church in the Bus Ministry, as a Sunday School teacher and in the Junior Church where she was like a mother to many children who attended.

After losing her husband, Tubby, to cancer in 1985, Thelma married George Trask in 2002. Upon doing so, she gained five children, 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. George and Thelma enjoyed working at Sand Mountain Bible Camp, assisting with meal preparation, and keeping the flower beds beautiful.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Jack Pryor; grandson, Michael McMahan; brother, Charles Pryor; sister, Grace Pryor Kervin; daughter-in-law, Jackie Case, and son-in-law, David Godsey.

She is survived by her husband, George; children, Larry (Louise) Case, Theresa (Bill) Gearrin, Bob (Lynda) Case, Donna Godsey, Phyllis (Mike) McMahan, and Jack (Rhonda) Case; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to Hearth Hospice, especially Roxanne and Mary.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 16, at Rising Fawn Baptist Church. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jamey Case. Shawn Lingerfelt, Jonathan Case, Daniel Case, Jordan Case and Jacob Case.  Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

KENNY WEST

Kenneth “Kenny” Lebron West, 75, of Trenton, formerly of Bryant, Ala., passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023.

Born on July 9, 1948, to Noah and Edith Smith West. Kenny was retired from TVA and served in the U.S. Army as a Vietnam veteran. Alongside these commitments, he found joy in church activities and farming. Kenny was an ardent fan of Alabama football and possessed great talent in playing softball. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, American Legion Post 106, and NSM Masonic Lodge 920.

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, JD, and Rayburn West; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Bryan) Roddy; and his sister-in-law, Pat West.

Survivors include his wife, Denica Brown West; sons, Kevin, Adam and Cody West; grandchildren, Bailey West Farmer and Kristen West; brother, Ralph (Gail) West; sisters-in-law, Kathy and Shirley West; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with ministers, David Moses, Steve Townson, and Donny Johnston officiating. Interment with full military honors was at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Trenton.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hearth Hospice and to family and friends for the prayers, food brought, and love they have shown during Kenny’s final days.
