DONALD ATCHLEY

Bobby Donald Atchley, 74, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Donald was born to Ruford and Fannie Mae Atchley in Bryant, Ala., on May 28,1949. He was one of 12 siblings. Donald retired as an engineer from Combustion Engineering. Following his retirement he had a successful general contracting business with his brother Orban Atchley and they also potato farmed together for many years. He and his brother, Roy Atchley, enjoyed “tinkering” on old Chevrolet pickup trucks. Along for Donald’s love for the Lord he enjoyed fishing with his son Josh and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Slygo Valley Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his son, Joshua Atchley; step-son, Brad Teet; siblings, Orban Atchley, Ray Atchley, Margie Baker, Hershel Atchley, Erlene Lee, Gene Atchley, Verna Waters, and Billy Atchley.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Deanna Atchley, granddaughters, Shelby Atchley and Taylor Atchley; daughter-in-law, Gladys Atchley; great–granddaughter, Kylie Weathers; siblings, Irma Veneble, Roy Atchley, and Harold Atchley; step- daughter, Marceela Klitzke; step-grandchildren, Damon Case, Ashley Perkins, Brooke Teet, Lisa Guyer, and Cassidy Klitzke.

Funeral services were Friday, July 28 in the funeral home chapel with Brother Donnie Walker officiating.  Interment was at Bryant Free Holiness Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shelby Atchley, Cody Atchley, Harold Atchley, Trent Atchley, Matt Cole, and Joe Bokina. Honorary pallbearers include Elda Culpepper, Myron Culpepper, Terry Holly, Freeman Harmon, Floyd Vinson, Doyle O’tinger, Greg Bradford, and Clint Farmer.

MIKE BLEVINS

Michael “Mike” Grandal Blevins, 55, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023.

Mike graduated from Northwest Georgia High School in 1985 and had been employed by Tritex Services for 15 years as a service manager. He married his wife, Tracy, in 2008 and for 15 years they resided in Trenton with their children and canine companions. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. Mike loved Georgia football, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. Mike was a loving, caring and passionate individual with an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Melvin Blevins; and sister, Becky Taylor.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy Dickerson Blevins; daughters, Molly and Macy Linder from Trenton; brother, Gene Blevins; sisters, Charlotte McBryar and Trish Cooper; nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no visitation or services. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for the Blevins family.

JAY ELLIOTT

Jason “Jay” Lee Elliott, 52, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Friday, July 28, 2023.

Born Sept. 29, 1970, in Okeechobee, Fla., to Harry “Sonny” Elliott and the late Patricia Beecham Jones. Jason was a loving husband, father, brother, and cherished Papa. He held an unwavering affection for his family and considered them his greatest treasure. His role as a dedicated Papa held a special place in his heart, and the joy he found in spending time with his beloved grandchildren was immeasurable. He was a man of many talents. Whenever something needed fixing Jason was the go-to handyman.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Rustyn Davenport.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Knaby Elliott; daughters, Harlie Elliott and Kearstyn (Andrew) Turner; son, Randyn Davenport; father, Sonny Elliott; sisters, Judy Shipman, Cris (Mark) Mattson), Chrissy Wooters, and Alice; brothers, Skip (Gail) Elliott, Carl (Cecilia) Elliott, Bopper Jones, and Corrie Thomas; grandchildren, Bentley, Brantley, Layia, Liam, Greathon, Britton, Amillia, and Cohen; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A viewing was Monday, July 31, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home.

DEWAYNE LAWSON

Dewayne Lloyd Lawson, 63, of Trenton, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother who will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure to know him. Dewayne was born in Fort Oglethorpe on Dec. 24, 1959, to Amos and Sara Allen Lawson. He had a deep love for his family and cherished the time spent with them. His son Matthew was his pride and joy, always by his side assisting him with his duties. Dewayne found solace in farming, fishing, Alabama football, and caring for his neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Lawson; uncles, David and Ernest Lawson; aunts, Anna Bible and Mary Hodge.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Kim Lawson; son, Matthew Lawson; mother, Sara Lawson; siblings, Terrie (Robert) Higdon and Jeffery (Rhonda) Lawson; nieces, nephews and extended family.

A visitation was at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home on Saturday, July 29.

Memorial donations may be made in Dewayne’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

JASON LAYMAN

Jason H. Layman, 46, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served two tours in Bosnia and Iraq following the 911 attacks.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Opal and Arley Layman, and Lucille and Howard Steele.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Beverly Layman; brother, Jeremy Layman, all of Trenton; nephews, Tristan Stephens and Leon Stephens; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., at Trenton Baptist Cemetery with full military honors. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

HOYT STEVISON

James Hoyt Stevison, 85, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Born in Harrison, Tenn., on June 12, 1938, Hoyt was the child of the late James Porter and Stella Mae Whitaker Stevison. He was a devoted member of Mountain View Church of God. Hoyt proudly served his country in the United States Army and enjoyed raccoon hunting, gardening, cheering for Alabama football, and captivating others with his stories. Additionally, he had a deep love for animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jewel Stevison; sister, Patsy Sims; step-grandson, Zach Talley; half-siblings, Hiwatha Sherman, Augusta Goins, Fred Stevison, and Melvin Stevison.

Survivors include his wife, Linda McBryar; sisters, Lois Pope, Shirley Banther, and Doris Rheay; three step-sons; six step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services were Sunday, July 30, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Bryant, Ala.

PAT WEST

Patsy Maude “Pat” West, 85, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023.

She was born Oct. 30, 1937, to the late Loman and Opal Fairbanks Woods. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Pat had a passion for cooking and was particularly known for her delicious fried apple pies. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, nurturing plants and flowers. However, above all else, Pat’s family was her greatest joy and source of fulfillment.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. West; brothers, Gordon Woods, Forest Woods, and Billy Woods; in-laws Joe West, Rayburn West, Joyce West Roddy, and Bryan Roddy.

Survivors include her children, Karen (Anthony) Swafford, Connie (Dennis) Welden, Ronnie (Jenne’) West, and Randy (Kelly) West; sisters, Frankie (Richard) Hutton and Jackie (Joe) Whitley; grandchildren, Jeremy Bell, Noah (Chancie) West, Briley West, Jennifer (Josh) Rimas, Andrew (Kailyn) Leon, Mitch (Becky) Swafford; great-grandchildren, River, Lake, Greenlee, Caroline, Dakota, and Mason; in-laws Ralph (Gail) West, Kenny (Denica) West, Kathy West, and Shirley West; special friend Joey Howard; nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Steve Townson and Brother Donny Johnston officiating. Interment was at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Trenton.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to caregivers Sheila Smith, Robin Jenkins, Brenda Hariston, and Felicia Cartwright for providing compassionate care during Patsy’s final days. They would also like to extend thanks to the staff at Hospice of North Alabama for their support.
