SHELBY BUFFINGTON

Shelby Jean Buffington, 85, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

She was born Oct. 26, 1937, to the late Homer Lee “Shorty” and Loretta Powell. Shelby was an incredibly hard-working and self-sufficient woman. One of her greatest passions in life was caring for others, especially her family. She was also known for her meticulous housekeeping skills, always keeping everything spotless and organized.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clyde Jennings Buffington; sister, Laverne Garrett.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Charlotte, Ricky and Karen, and Jeff and Carolyn Buffington; grandchildren, Miranda and Luke Kennamer, Blake and Tiffanie Buffington, Robby and Alana Buffington, Heather and Adam Tuxbury; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 24, at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Tommy Crider officiating. Burial was at Deer Head Cove Cemetery.

Ricky Buffington, Jeff Buffington, Barry Buffington, Blake Buffington, Robby Buffington and Adam Tuxbury served as pallbearers.

ANTHONY CASTLEBERRY

Anthony Castleberry, 42, of Rising Fawn, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Ann Wilson Castleberry.

Survivors include his father, Randy Castleberry (Kelly Foster) of Rising Fawn; sister, Starla Hodge, Dayton, Tenn.; several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

Funeral services were Sunday, June 25, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robby Dunn officiating.

MARY HIGDON

Mary Ellen Avans Higdon, 89, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Mary was born to the late Arnold and Julia Reeves Avans on July 29, 1933. Mary cherished her faith and community at Higdon Free Holiness Church. She also enjoyed tending her beautiful flower gardens and quiet moments of fishing. Her kindness and devotion were extended to all those who knew her, especially to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Higdon; and siblings, R.C. “Sam” Avans, Geraldine Palmer, Onless Avans, Cordelia Melton, and Fred Avans.

Survivors include her children, Calvin Gerald (Vickie) Higdon and Cecilia (Bill) Scott; sister, Alladine Pruitt; grandchildren, Amanda Jill (Gabriel) Goins, Nicholas Mitchell (Beth) Higdon, Angela Misti (Darrell) Hoover, and Adam Christopher (Alisha) Scott; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeal services were Tuesday, June 27, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Edwin Spurgeon and Brother Jody Gray officiating. Interment was at Higdon Cemetery.

CLARA MARONA

Clara Fitz-Gerald Marona, 67, of Trenton, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.

She was born to the late Doug and Betty Fitz-Gerald on March 3, 1956 in Bridgeport, Ala. Clara was a 1974 graduate of South Pittsburg High School and was long-time administrative assistant with Marshall Corporate for 25 years and with H&R Block as one of Trenton’s top tax preparers for 33 years. She was a member of Sylgo Valley United Methodist Church, enjoyed Alabama football, catching up with friends, a Cracker Barrel meal and loved her family and those that became her family, often putting their needs before her own.

Clara married Allen Marona in 1975 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Lynn Marona.

Survivors include her daughter and her wife, Tina Kristen Marona and Tumesha Cameron; brother, Gerald Fitz-Gerald and family; cousin, Carla Gullat and family; granddaughters, Hazel and Josie Marona.

Funeral services will be today, June 28, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Joe Moore officiating.  She will be entombed at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Bryant, Ala.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at Ryan Funeral Home and Crematory.

Tim Dunn, Jonathan Peoples, Chip Tiffin, Jonathan Spurgin, Brandon Spurgin, and Darren Herring will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Brown and Don Marshall.

GINGER MCBRIDE

Ginger Gail Williams McBride, 52, of Ider, Ala., passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, in an auto accident.

Ginger was a 1989 graduate of Northwest Georgia High School and a graduate of the RN Nursing Program at NACC. She was a member of Tiftonia Holiness Church and owner of McBride’s Bookstore in Trenton. She has been employed for the last 19 years as a nurse at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, Tenn., with the last several years in the Oncology 4 East department. Her dedication to her family and patients was one of her outstanding traits.

She was preceded in death by her father, Coy Williams Sr.; niece, Amanda Odom; grandparents, Wesley Hawkins, Katheryn Ellis, Tom Williams, and Ilean Lowrey; mother– and father–in–law, Hildon and Leeila McBride.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie McBride; children, O’Bryan Jones (Daniel), MaKay McBride, and Anderson McBride; grandson, Axton Jones; mother, Sheron Hawkins Williams; brothers, Tommy Williams (Stacy), and Coy Williams Jr.; step-grandchildren, Danielle, Shadda and Devin Jones; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Carmella Carson (Labron) and Nathan McBride; nieces and nephews, Jameson Carson, Thomas Williams, Tyler Williams, Allyssa Refro and Tabitha Bess.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 21, at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with Bro. Troy Lawson and Bro. Brent Michaels officiating.

OLA MAE TURNER

Annabelle Ola Mae Turner, infant daughter of Bryce and Brooklyn Turner, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Although she was with us for a short time, she will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Annabelle is survived by her parents; sister, Charlsie Turner; grandparents, Jeff and Julie Poston, Bruce and Candy Turner; aunts and uncles, Spencer Turner, Houston and Cameo Poston, Sydney and Thumper Blake, Memphis Poston; great-grandparents, Tommy and Judy Hartman, Lavaughn Turner, Anne Mason, Nikki and Judy Oliver, Dan Poston, and Debby Pack; great-great-grandparents, Joy and Charles Johnson; first cousin, Denver Poston.

Graveside services were Monday, June 26, at Hawkins Cemetery in New Salem.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude towards the dedicated nurses Maddy and Kayla from Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford for their unwavering care during this difficult time.
