Around 2:00 p.m. on April 11, a tragic accident at the Sunset Drive/South Industrial Boulevard railroad crossing in Trenton resulted in the death of Ted Wade, 77, of Trenton. Trenton Police Department and Trenton-Dade County Fire and Rescue responded to the accident, and Georgia State Patrol conducted the crash investigation.
GSP’s preliminary report explained that the red Jeep appeared to have a mechanical problem causing it to come to a stop on the tracks while the crossing gates were raised. The crossing gates lowered as a train approached, and Wade attempted to get the Jeep to move.
Wade was unable to exit the vehicle prior to impact by the train. He was thrown from the vehicle on impact and found deceased on the scene.
The Jeep was found facing north in the ditch beside the railway tracks.
The accident is still under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
