Special Agent Daniel Nicholson from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined Citizen’s Academy on March 21 to explain the work of GBI, highlighting GBI’s three divisions: investigations, forensic science, and Georgia Crime Information Center. GBI is a request agency, meaning their help must be requested by sheriffs, district attorneys, chiefs of police, or other officials. Nicholson has been involved with several cases in Dade, including a Jane Doe cold case from 1988 which was solved last year and a man who made pipe bombs here in the county. After hearing about the process of crime scene analysis, attendees then participated in a crime scene scenario, searching for clues, conducting eyewitness interviews, taking photos, and attempting to solve the murder case.
