At the start of the March 15 Citizen’s Academy session, attendees heard firsthand from Sheriff Ray Cross and officers about the chase and arrest of wanted sex offender Ronald Sever on March 9. Residents asked questions about sex offenders, sexual predators, examples of such cases in Dade County, and laws surrounding these issues.
Then, Gary McConathy from Georgia Northwestern Technical College Law Enforcement Academy spoke about the requirements and training for students at the school. The 408 hours of training for all Georgia law enforcement officers cover topics like the criminal justice system, ethics, criminal law, media relations, crisis intervention, family violence, crime prevention techniques, and much more.
