The Dade County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Trotter Raymond Clark, a Lookout Mountain, Ga. resident, on one count of arson. Clark was arrested for setting fire to a curtain at Covenant College. He is not a member of the Covenant College community.

The fire took place the evening of Feb. 4 in the lobby of Carter Hall, the flagship building of the college.

A student acted quickly, pulling the fire alarm. All students safely exited the building. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system by the time the West Brow Fire Department arrived on the scene.

Employees at the college reported that one window was broken, but most of the damage was from the smoke and water. Students were allowed back in the dorm by 11:30 p.m. once the building had been cleared by the fire department.

The Office of Safety & Security had video footage of the incident, and eyewitnesses provided accounts. Clark was arrested on the scene, and he has since been released on bond.
