CARVETH BENNETT, SR.

Carveth Whitfield Bennett, Sr., 93, a resident of Hixson, Tenn., and Trenton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023.

A humanitarian, structural engineer, military serviceman in Ohio National Guard 37th Infantry Buckeye Division, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and godfather, Mr. Bennett was known to all as “Car” or “Carv.”  He was born in Oak Park, Cook County, Ill., on April 17, 1930, to Elliot Chalmers and Ella Annette Bennett. He graduated from Bedford High School, Bedford, Ohio, and attended Case Institute of Technology, Western Reserve Cleveland, Ohio where he studied Civil Engineering. He served in the Ohio National Guard’s 37th Infantry Merchanized Buckeye Division during the Korean conflict. He married Betty Dean Ozbolt from Eva, Ala., in October 1952, and later had three children. Mr. Bennett, first working for a few years in the building industry on major construction operations in Cleveland, Ohio, served as president of a labor union and head of local AFL. Later Mr. Bennett, with his son Carveth, Jr., started their own engineering business. In the 1970’s, with his grown children, he ran the Trenton Western Auto.  Mr. Bennett retired at the age of 85, continuing to work as an independent consultant for several more years. Mr. Bennett was a devoted husband and father. He loved fishing trips with his family. Mr. Bennett assisted the sheriff associations and largely contributed to the construction of a home for homeless boys among other social causes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bennett; parents, Elliot Chalmers and Ella Annette Bennett.

Survivors include his children, Carla, Barb, and Corky; grandson, Davis Kesler; granddaughter, Damaris Kesler.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 27, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eddie Cantrell officiating. Interment was in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or any Sheriff’s boys home associations.

HUGH BLEVINS, JR.

Hugh Newton Blevins, Jr., 74, of Rising Fawn, passed away Saturday Jan.28, 2023.

He was born to Newt and Lillie Blevins on Oct. 11, 1948, in South Pittsburg, Tenn. He was a graduate of Dade County High School class of 1968 and was a veteran of the United States Army from 1968–1972. After returning he was self-employed in the construction industry as a contractor. He was most recently employed and retired from Dade County as County Inspector.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Pam Forester Blevins of Rising Fawn; children, Doug (Sam) Blevins and their children Mason and Beau of Loganville, and Becky (Alex) Williams and their children Jett and Lillie of Lexington, S.C.; brother, Ernest Blevins of Chattanooga, Tenn.; nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity in honor of Hugh Blevins, Jr.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 1, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dennis Flaugher and Rev. Reece Fauscett officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 10–11 a.m. at the funeral home.

JEANETTE COX

Jeanette Gilbreath Cox, 86, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023.

Jeanette lived in the New England community and spent most of her life working in the manufacturing business and in retirement was a security guard.  She has many friends from those areas of employment.

She was preceded in death were her husband, Leo Cox; eight sisters and brothers; cousins, and other relatives.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicky Cox Jennings of Red Bank, Tenn.; son, Ricky Van Cox of west Tennessee; sister-in-law, Melva Gilbreath; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 29, at Moore Funeral Home with Brother Michael Kilgore officiating. Interment was at the Gibb Dock cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Edgar and Shauna Delgado-Gonzalez for their compassionate care.

GERALD DAGNAN

Gerald Shane Dagnan, 44, of Ringgold, passed away Monday, Jan. 23,2023.

He was a member of Carpenter Cowboy Church and of Baptist faith. He was also a member of 423 Family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Trena Dagnan; maternal grandparents, Helen Prince and Rayford Russell; paternal grandparents, Doris K. and Herschel Dagnan.

Survivors include his father Gerald Dagnan of Whiteside, Tenn.; wife, Kerstain Overstreet of Ringgold; sisters, Kim White of Trenton, Stephanie Dagnan and Tiffany Dagnan, both of Whiteside, Tenn., Amber Armstrong of Catoosa County; brothers, Bobby Dagnan of Whiteside, Tenn., and Derek and Andrea Hinkle of Bryant, Ala.; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was Saturday, Jan. 28 at Prince Family Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Moreland officiating. Pallbearers were John Dagnan, Bryan Gouger, T.R. Henry, Shaun Francis, Will Grimes, Jamey Harris, C.J. Morgan and Terry McNabb.

JERRY HARRIS

Jerry Devon “Von” Harris, 65, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.

Von was a loving man with a huge heart who loved to laugh and be around others. He never met a stranger and no one felt like a stranger around him. Above all, we will all miss his infectious laugh and smile.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Reeves Harris; father, Carl Luther Harris; mother, Dorothy Marie (Harris) Prince; step-father, Homer Prince; sister Susie Ann Slay; brother, Rickey Harris; step-brother, Dale Prince; grandparents, Arnold and Lula Mae Daniel; grandparents, John Roscoe and Asenith Ridley Harris.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Teresa Harris; daughter, Jamie (Melvin) Cook; grandchildren, Dalton, Bailegh, Weber; great-grandchildren, Hinson, Aliyah, Layla; brother, Randall Harris; step-brother, Shannon Prince; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services were Sunday, Jan.29, at Deer Head Cove Cemetery in DeKalb County, Ala., with Rev. Dewayne Moon officiating.

MARGARET KENIMER

Margaret Elizabeth Kenimer Sellers (Peggy) 88, of Rising Fawn, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.

Mrs. Sellers lived in many places during her husband’s career in the Army, Westford Mass., was the only place besides Rising Fawn that was ever thought of as home. Early in life Margaret was part on the Women’s Army Corps (WAC’s) leaving the Corp in 1955 after becoming pregnant with her first child. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt and friend, and was a member of the Rising Fawn United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Kenimer of Rising Fawn; husband, Francis J. Sellers; daughter, Kathleen E. Sellers; nephew, Jeffrey E. Davis.

Mrs. Sellers is survived by her son, Francis Jerome (Jerry) Sellers, Jr.; daughter, Mary Ann Sellers; sister, Judy Canterbury; sisters-in-law, Catherine Wells, Shelia Sellers, and Mary Davis; nieces and nephews.

ANGELA NAYADLEY

Angela Nayadley, 60, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.

Angela was born to the late Clifton and Shirley Johnson on April 13, 1962, in Manchester, Tenn. She grew up in Lookout Valley and loved the community. She was the secretary of her junior class, flag girl for five years, a junior high cheerleader, and member of TOEC.  She was a faithful friend, caring mother, and wonderful wife and will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Steve Nayadley; daughter, Erica Nayadley (Robert Cox); sister, Christina Edwards.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 27, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Steven Granger officiating. Interment was at Higdon Cemetery, Bryant, Ala.

MARGARET SELLERS

BRADLEY TEET

Bradley Wade Teet, 53, of Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Lookout Mountain, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023.

Brad was a decorated veteran who served in Iraq and had previously spent four years of active duty. He was born on June 24, 1969, to parents Irby Teet and Deanna Atchley in Trenton. Brad graduated in 1987 from Northwest Georgia High School and always emphasized his love for riding dirt bikes. If he wasn’t riding a bike, he was fixing one up. His love for mechanics translated later into his military career, where he became a diesel mechanic for the Army. Brad would go on to serve for two tours, one being right out of high school and one after the events of 9/11. When he wasn’t working on bikes, he was working hard at being the best father to his two girls.

Brad is preceded in death by grandparents, Joseph and Rose Bokina and Kenneth and Bessie Teet; father, Irby C. Teet; uncles and aunts, Dwane Teet, Barbara (Bobby) LeCroy, Carolyn Bokina, and Phil Granger.

Survivors include his daughters, Brooke Teet and Lisa Guyer; mother, Deanna (Donald) Atchley; step-mother, Beverly Teet; brothers, Stephen and Jesse Teet; sister, Marceela Teet; nieces, Cassidy Klitzke, and Ashley Perkins; nephew, Damon Case; aunts and uncles, Anita (Jesse) Hines, Charlotte (Winfred) Mills, Yvonnee Williams, Thelma Teet, Joseph ‘Bo’ (Joyce) Bokina Jr., Kathleen Granger; and cousins.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m., at Griffin Holiness Church Cemetery, Lookout Mountain, with full military honors and Bro. Royce Cornelison officiating.  There will be no public visitation.

MAYME VANN

Mayme Ruth Vann, 93, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.

Mayme was born to the late Joe and Verna Bradley Perkins on March 23, 1929. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, always giving generously to others and a valuable prayer warrior. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Bryant, Ala. Mayme loved her family and will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jana B. Green; brother, William P. Perkins.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John G. Vann; daughter, Karen D. Vann (Ron Buffington); sons, Timothy J. Page (Kathy Page), and Roger D. Page (Rebecca Page); grandchildren, Allison Stephens, Ashley Page, Josh Daniel, Heather Constant, and Elliot Vann-Buffington; great-grandchildren, James Howard III, Jake Constant, Troy Daniel, Eli Daniel, Alec Daniel, Joshua Daniel, Liam Daniel, Livia Daniel, Roselynn Stephens, Richard Stephens IV, and Rachel Stephens; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Dwight Kennedy and Pastor Darren Rogers officiating. Interment was at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.
