TOM BATES

Thomas Larry “Tom” Bates, 82, of Lookout Mountain, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

Tom was born Nov. 29, 1940, to the late Edgar and Hester Quinn Bates. He retired from the United States Air Force and the United States Postal Service. In 2003, Tom and his wife Lucy moved to Lookout Mountain to enjoy retirement. He was an avid golfer and member of McLemore Club. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Greene and Wayne Bates.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Lucy Bates; children, Carol Swinehart, Tammy Raybourn, Melissa Conner and Marc Shilling; sister, Jan O’Neal; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.

ROBERT FROST

Robert Kenneth “Rosco” Frost, 57, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023.

Robert was born Jan. 21, 1965, in Fort Payne, Ala., to Floyd and Billie Barnes Frost. By nature, Robert was kind and gentle. He loved his dog, “Ruby Sue” and he also enjoyed fishing. Robert will be missed dearly by his family and all who had the joy of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.W. and Lettie Barnes and Raleigh and Minnie Frost.

Survivors include his sister, Pat (Randy) Holman; brother, Mike Frost; nephews, Heith (Caroline) Frost and Layton (Autumn) Holman; nieces, Laci (Jason) Davidson and Kassie (Will) Smith; great–nieces and nephews, Brilyn, Maleia, Britton, Tanner, Addilyn, Kingston, Remington, Jack, and Violet; special friends, Cheryl and Preston Hawkins.

Funeral services were at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 21, with Bro. Layton Holman and Bro. Paul Higdon officiating. Interment will was at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Bryant, Ala.

Pallbearers were Heith Frost, Will Smith, Jason Davidson, Arnold Pell, Mike Taylor, and Chris Hamby.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the MICU doctors and nurses of Parkridge Hospital.

DON HICKS

Marvin Donald (Don) Hicks Sr., 75, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023.

Don was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud papa. He served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and served his community in healthcare and law enforcement for over 35 years. Don was a member of Trenton United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Dillard Hicks and Lerlene Gray Hicks; brother, Lester Gregory Hicks.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Dorothy Ann Patterson Hicks; daughters, Christy Hicks and Shannon (Buddy) Palmer; son, DJ (Jennifer) Hicks; grandchildren, Apollo and Aurora Hicks.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Reese Fauscett and Rev. Dennis Flaugher officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

DOROTHY LANKSTER

Dorothy Jean Walston Lankster, 71, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.

Dorothy was born Dec.9, 1951, in Palestine, Texas, to the late William and Lillie Knight Walston. She had been a resident of Trenton for the past 16 years and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Lankster was retired from the food industry and was preceded in death by her daughter, Leah Boone.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Terry Lankster; children, Shelle Higgins, Heath Boone, Misty Livesay, Ann Clark and Adam Lankster; several great–grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

TOM PAYNE

Gordon Thomas “Tom” Payne, 70, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Jan.18, 2023.

As a younger man, Tom enjoyed golf, fishing and occasionally shared his love of snow skiing. He spent hours looking for arrowheads and God blessed his efforts with many treasures from the past to share with future generations. He was a meticulous carpenter and heavy equipment operator. Tom lived by a guide…”if you can’t do your best, leave it to someone who will.” If you truly new Tom Payne, you were blessed. He spent his most recent time thanking God for his protection though the years knowing he would not have made it without his grace and mercy. He urged others to study God’s word and enjoy the truth as God reveals it.

Tom was preceded in death by his faither, Gordon Lee Payne; mother, Charlsie Keys; step-father, Henry Keys.

Survivors include his two daughters, two sons-in-law, two grandchildren, four siblings, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Honoring Tom’s request, there will be no formal funeral service or family visitation.

ALLEN SHRADER

Robert Allen Shrader, 50, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023.

Allen was born Aug. 22, 1972, to Terry and Deborah Shrader. He loved his kids with all of his heart and was devoted to them and his family. Allen was an avid Atlanta Braves and Florida State Seminoles fan. He will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his son, Austin Shrader; sister, Tara Shrader; grandparents, Alvin Elrod, Mollie and Luther Shrader; and Uncle Donny Shrader.

Survivors include his children, Ryan, Alec, and Rachel Shrader; parents, Terry and Deborah Shrader; sister, Sherry (Jeff) Lacey; brother, Nathaniel (Ayla) Shrader; nieces and nephews, Peyton Lacey, Austin Lacey, Kaleb Lacey, Micah Lacey, and Raelynn Shrader.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., ET today, Jan. 25, at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Randy Tinker and Brother Michael Kilgore officiating. Interment will follow at Head Springs Cemetery, Valley Head, Ala.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m., until the funeral hour.

ANN SHRADER

Ann Shrader, 74, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023.

Ann was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was employed with the North Sand Mountain School cafeteria for more than 10 years. She loved to quilt and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Bill Shrader; daughter, Lavoda Shrader; parents, Wayne Leverett and Ida Crisp; brothers and sisters, Cathy Watson, Mack Leverett, Kim Rollins and Jerry Leverett.

Survivors include her children, Jerome (Pam) Shrader of Trenton, Kalla (Jim) Walsh of Bryant, Ala., and Burton (Chastity) Shrader of Trenton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Trisha Stephens, Terry Leverett, Rita Brown, Jack Leverett, and Perry Leverett; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 20 in the funeral home chapel. Interment was in New Home Cemetery.

IMAJEAN SIMS

Imajean Sims, 77, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2023.

Imajean was born June 20, 1945, to the late George and Alvie Adams Howard. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and picking blackberries. In her later years, Imajean loved listening to the radio and drinking coffee. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sims; and siblings, Elizabeth, Ellamae, Donald Ray and Billy Howard.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Michelle Sims, Wayne Sims and Glenn Sims; siblings, Joyce Hicks and Hollis Howard; grandchildren, Keith Sims, Nicole (D.J. Pardue) Sims, Cory (Brittany) Sims, Tiffany Goins, Carrie (David Wade) Goins and Madison Harden; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Dean Sims officiating. Interment was at Ebenezer Cemetery.

WANDA TALLENT

Wanda Sue Tallent, 74, of Rising Fawn, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.

Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Lee “Tony” Troxtel; parents, Rev. D.L. Johnson and Mamie Neocia Brannon Johnson; sister, Betty Ross; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Fannie Tallent.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Gary Tallent; daughter, Kimberly Neocia (Steve) Buffington; granddaughters, Sara Neocia (Clinton) Buffington, and Bonnie (Nathan) Buffington; brother, Robert (Myra) Johnson; sister, Charlotte Lynn; great-grandsons, Logan and Colin Hawkins.
