M.G. BAILEY

M.G. Bailey, 91, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022.

Mr. Bailey served as a Sargeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars. He was retired from Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Martha Elizabeth Hicks; his parents, General Major Augustus Bailey and Bertha Athaline Roden; eight siblings.

Survivors include his daughters, Sue (Tony) Smalley of Trenton and Veronica Sain of Ringgold; son, Larry (Liz) Bailey of Grand Bay, Ala.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bailey, Christopher Sain, Jesse Sain, Josh Smalley, Billy Abline, Nicole Abline, and Jessica Bellamy; several great-grandchildren.

Private interment was Friday, Dec. 16, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

BARBARA CUTSHALL

Barbara Allen Cutshall, 83, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022.

Mrs. Cutshall was retired from Tennessee Galvanizing in Jasper, Tenn., and was of the Southern Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis R. Cutshall; daughter, Rebecca Jean Gatton; parents, Henry Lloyd and Lillian Ruth Jackson Wimp; brothers, John Robert Wimp and Lloyd Henry Wimp; sister, Helen Ruth.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Terri) Cutshall and Tom (Amy) Cutshall, of Trenton; daughters, Karen (Duane) Classen, Eldora, Iowa, and Vickie (Ryan) Lucas, Charlotte, N.C.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens with Rev. Terry Trivette officiating.

BOBBY GATLIN

Robert “Bobby” Cecil Gatlin Jr., 79, of Sulphur Springs, Ala., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022.

Bobby was born March 6, 1943, to the late Robert “Bug” and Cora Belle Dawkins Gatlin. He was passionate about his family and grandkids. Bobby loved the outdoors and watching sports. He was an avid bass fisherman and his favorite sports teams were the Alabama Crimson Tide and St. Louis Cardinals. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Beth Gatlin; and brother, Tommy Gatlin.

Survivors include his son, Bobby “Cliff” (J.P. “Pea-Dab”) Gatlin; siblings, Smitty (Patsy) Gatlin and Mary Sue Moses; grandchildren, Nick (Kara) Gatlin and Jake Gatlin; great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Marshall Gatlin; extended family members.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 18 at Moore Funeral Home with Brother David Brown officiating. Interment was at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Nick Gatlin, Jake Gatlin, Ernest McElhaney, Steve Blackmon, Paul Morgan and Ernie Ellerbe.

ZELPHA GOSSETT

Zelpha Faye Gossett, 79, of Chattanooga, TN., passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2022.

She believed in love. She believed in hopefulness. She believed in kindness and understanding. And whether you encountered her at the daycare, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, as a Cub Scout den mother, or any other number of roles she assumed, she tried her best to always demonstrate and live them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret McKaig Gray; siblings, Geraldine Stephens, Charlotte Gray, Novella Dotson, and Linda Eaker.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Jack “Jackie” Allen Gossett; sons, Allen (Tracey) Gossett, Jr., Jason Robert (Sonja) Gossett; grandchildren, Evan (Erika) Gossett, Holden Gossett, Alliana (Hunter) Martin, Liam Gossett; great-grandchild, Jackson McCoy Gossett; sister, Betty Abbott; brother, John (Peggy) Gray, Jr.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 16 at Moore Funeral Home with Brother Darrell Smith and Pastor Garrett Reagan officiating. Interment was at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

CLINTON MCBRYAR

Samuel Clinton McBryar, 85, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022.

Clinton was born Feb. 16, 1937, to the late Frank and Maudie Moore McBryar. He retired from Combustion Engineering and worked as an electrician after retirement. Clinton enjoyed cattle farming and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delilah Doyle McBryar; siblings, Donald McBryar, Doyle McBryar, Merita Wilson and Willard McBryar.

Survivors include his sons, Gene McBryar, Curtis (Joy York) McBryar and Brian (Tonya) McBryar; four grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; brothers, Frank Junior (Cindy) McBryar, Charles McBryar, Lamar McBryar and Bobby McBryar.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Renshaw officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

BETTY MORGAN

Betty Jean Morgan, 87, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022 in Madisonville, Ky.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and loved spending time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Faith Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lebron Wilson McFalls; mother, Georga Ann Hicks McFalls; husband, Carlos E. Morgan, Sr.; daughter, Patricia Knight; son, Don Chambers; four brothers; one sister; and one great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her sons, Dilliard Chambers of Madisonville, Ky., Ronald Dean Hood, Jackie (Pam) Chambers, Tommy (Tina) Morgan, Carlos Morgan, Jr., (Lashon Wilson) and Bobby Morgan, all of Trenton; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 17 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Howell officiating.  Interment was the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery.

JESSE PIERCE

Jesse Raymond Pierce, 75, of East Ridge, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022.

Jesse was born to the late Harold and Verlo Bice Pierce on Dec. 30, 1946 in Yakima, Wash. He enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent carpenter. Jesse was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and of the Baptist faith. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Pierce; sisters, Belinda Pierce and Sarah.

Survivors include his children, Raymond Pierce and Alayena (Steven) Martin; siblings, Peggy Digman and Owen Small; grandchildren, Amanda (Marcus) Humphries and Ashley Westmoreland; great-grandchildren, Daxton, Parker, Paisley, Briley and Starley.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., today, Dec. 21at Moore Funeral Home with Brother Joe Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m., until the funeral hour.
