IRELAND CANNON

Ireland Jeanett Cannon, 83, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022.

Mrs. Cannon was a prayer warrior for many that called her and was a faithful member of Fairview Church of God where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Cannon, Sr.; daughter, Cindy Cannon; parents, Jonah and Mary Lawson Cornett; siblings, Jonah Cornett and Cleve Cornett, Wayne and Adah Jane Cannon, Jackie Cannon, Hank Cannon, Pixie Emerson, Raymond Cannon, Linda Ann Cannon, Sara Ruth Sillasen, and Peggy Hadley; her unborn children, Jacob and Misty Cannon.

Survivors include her son, Joseph W. (Debra) Cannon, Jr.; daughter, Trina Cannon; sisters, Beth Chambers and Elaine (Bill) Little; sisters-in-law, Doris Cornett and Joan Cornett; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Nancy) Cannon, Johnny Cannon, Karen (Dennis) Forshee, and Vicky York; special friend that she called her daughter, Elaine Tate; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, Dec.1 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Buddy Palmer and Pastor Stuart Wilkerson officiating. Interment was in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Anthony Cannon, Adam Cannon, Chuck Cannon, Mark Rimas, Michael Rimas, Travis York, Judd York, Kit Forshee, Kirk Forshee and Luke Cannon.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kid’s Ministry at Fairview Church of God where she was known as “Granny Love.”  Fairviewchurchofgod.org/give.

BELVIA COATES

Belvia Louise Coates, 89,  of Wildwood passed Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, following a long battle with numerous health problems.

She was born on July 18, 1933. Her number one goal for the past 50 years was looking forward to the day that she could unite with her true love, Charles T. Coates Sr., as they both play their guitars and sing to one another.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Charles T. Coates Sr.; two grandsons; parents; eight brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter; two sons; grandchildren; great–grandchildren and their families; nieces and nephews; great–nieces.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 2, in the funeral home chapel with Jason Blake and her son-in-law, Walker H. Pruitt officiating. Interment was in Hooker Cemetery. Jackie Daniels, Rowland Durham, Tommy Hunt, Brent Walton Pruitt, Charles Lee Pruitt, Carlton Stallings, Nicholas Walls, and Jeff Wood served as pallbearers.

MARTIN GASS

Martin Keith Gass, 63, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.

Marty loved his family and made sure he told them everyday. He was a self-employed roofer, enjoyed fishing and was an excellent chess player.  Always smiling and cutting jokes, Marty will dearly be missed by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Ford; father, John Pryor; brother, Douglas E. Gass; sister, Carmalita Gass.

Survivors include his sons, John and Jax Gass; nephew, Jeremiah (Shandy) Avans; niece, Mandi (Douglas) Gass.

WANDA HILLEY

On December 5, 2022, Wanda Jean Buchanan Hilley, 81, of Trenton, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2022.

Wanda loved her home and her family above all else; no one ever left her home hungry! She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and lover of life. She and the love of her life, Talvis Fran Hilley, were married for 62 years, most of which were spent in Trenton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ephriam Shadrack and Ida Carroll Buchanan; siblings, Lester Buchanan, Chester Buchanan, E.S. Buchanan Jr., Ruth Schrader, Jewell Heiser, and Ida Cooper.

Survivors include her husband, Talvis Fran Hilley; children, Talvis Wayne (Doris Durham) Hilley and Angela Hilley (Ernest Younce); sisters, Deloris Smyth and Virginia Joiner; granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Hilley (William McBee); nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Pathways at Rosewood and Tapestry Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at noon ET tomorrow, Decc 8, at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

Burial will follow at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Dec. 7, from 4–7 p.m., and on Thursday from 10 a.m., until the service hour.

BERNICE LAMBERTH

Bernice Kathlene Lamberth, 91, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.

Bernice was born to the late Johnny and Minnie Tinker Barton on June 10, 1931 in Shiloh, Ala. She enjoyed spending time with her family and tending to her flowers. She was an avid church goer who loved gospel music. Bernice was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by husbands, James Ott and Sel Lamberth; children, Barbara Sumner and Larry Ott; siblings, Thelma Imagene Hughs and Dalpha Young.

Survivors include her daughter, Marsha (Kenny) Phillips; sisters, Darlene Childress and Joyce (Gene) Stephens; brother, Doyce (Martha) Barton; grandchildren, Billie Rhodes, Mary (Brent) Johnson, Darrell Ott, Amanda Holloway, Jason Ott, James (Lizzy) Ott, Kerry Phillips and Joseph Phillips; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 4, at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton with Brother Michael Burge officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

JAMIE LAYNE

Jamie Renee Layne, 48, of Rising Fawn, passed away Monday, Nov.21, 2022.

She was born on July 23, 1974, and was a 1992 graduate of Northwest Georgia High School. Jamie attended Columbus State obtaining a B.S. degree in education and an M.S. degree in Special Education from Troy University. he was employed at a number of schools over her career from 1997–2019. She enjoyed working with children with Autism.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Odessa Frizell Layne and Charles and Sophia Gilbert Parker.

Survivors include her parents, Etcyle and Velita Parker Layne of Rising Fawn; sister, Jennifer (Brad) Moore of Wildwood; brother, Gary (Deandra) Thompson; nephews, Braxton and Janson Thompson; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

BILLIE McKINNEY

Thelma “Billie” Elizabeth McKinney, 92, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.

Billie was born to the late John and Georgia Chadwick Troxtel on Oct. 23, 1930 in Sulphur Springs, Ala.  She retired from Chattanooga City Court where she worked as an Assistant Court Clerk. She also worked as a stagehand at the Memorial Auditorium and was a member of the IATSE Union Local 130.  Billie was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Sarah Gatlin and Aileen Welden.

Survivors include her children, Thomas (Jennifer) McKinney of Hixson, Tenn., and Vicki McKinney in Thousand Oaks, Calif.; grandson, Ian McKinney of Madison, Wis.

Graveside services will be at noon ET on Thursday, Dec. 8 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Ala.

PALMER NASH

Palmer Dale Nash, 84, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Thursday, Dec.1, 2022.

Palmer was born to the late Burla and Edna Martin Nash on Aug. 22, 1938. He was a retired truck driver and owner of P&V Leather. Palmer enjoyed traveling and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and camping. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, a member of American Legion Post 106, Past Master of Masonic Lodge 920 and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church since 1956. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Manuel Nash, Harmon Nash, Vina Bowen, Billy Nash and James Nash.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia Nash; daughters, Teresa Nash Miller, Denese Nash and Angela (Jerry) Payne; sisters, Mabel Weldon, Hilda Kinsey and Nelda Long; brother, Charles (Peggy) Nash; sister in-law, Mary Ann Nash; grandchildren, Chelsea Miller, Dalton Payne and Victoria Payne; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice, family and friends for their prayers and support.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 4, at Moore Funeral Home in Bryant, Ala., with Brother Todd Smith officiating. Burial was at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

GLENN SMYTH

Glenn L. Smyth, 83, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Nov.23, 2022.

Glenn was born and raised in Wildwood and was known for his ability to design, build, and fix anything. He especially loved antique American cars, boats, trains, Nascar, the Braves, and Alabama football. He was employed for many years with Chattanooga Coke and Chemicals and then at U.S. Pipe. He enjoyed traveling, his home and yard, the mountains, Lookout Creek and his family. He was faithfully baptized into the Christian faith.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Glen and Emma; siblings, Charles and Geraldine; nephew, Michael.

He is survived by his children, Karen and Glenn, Jr. (Ninfa); grandchildren and nieces.
