The annual New Salem barbecue and fireworks show is being held during 4th of July weekend for the first time since 2019.
The barbecue and fireworks will be held at the New Salem Community Center, located at 12477 Highway 136 on Lookout Mountain, on Saturday, July 2.

The barbecue will be noon until 3 p.m. Barbecue plates will cost $10, and there will be a choice of beef or chicken. The plates will also include beans and coleslaw. Sandwiches and chips will also be available for $7.

In the evening, at 7 p.m. there will be entertainment by a variety of local musicians. That will continue until dark, and then there will be a fireworks display, sponsored by the New Salem Fire Department.

During the evening, concessions will be for sale, in addition to any leftover barbecue sandwiches.

All proceeds from the barbecue go to the New Salem Community Center. Proceeds from concessions during the fireworks show will go to the New Salem Fire Department.

The event is put on each year by members of the New Salem Community Improvement Club. The club members meet once a month. According to Faye Nichols, a member of the club, the 4th of July event has been held for over 40 years.

“Previously, we have been rated in the top five for the tri-state area for fireworks show. You’ll be surprised at the amount of folks that come for the fireworks. It’s something good and fun for the whole family,” Nichols said.

Rain date for fireworks display is July 3.
