HELEN HERNDON

Helen Smith Herndon, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Helen was born in 1931 in Clarksville, Tenn., she married the late Mitchell Smith in 1947 and they were married for over 50 years until his passing in March of 1998, Mitchell was pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Elkton, Ky. Several years after Mitchell’s passing Helen married John Herndon of Cadiz, Ky and until his passing in January of 2021.

Survivors include her children, Judy Adkins and Terry of Dearborn Heights, Mi., Roger Dale Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Kerry Smith and Anita of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister Linda Digman of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother, Ralph Suiter of Florida; step–children, John (Connie) Herndon, Steve Herndon, Debbie (Monte) Birdsong and Teresa (Kevin) Neal; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were Saturday, April 30 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton, Ky., with Dr. Kerry Smith, Bro. Terry Adkins and Pastor Chris Page officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery in Elkton.

HAZEL MCDOWELL

Hazel Ruth McDowell, 84, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Saturday April 30, 2022.

Mrs. McDowell was a homemaker and a member of Magby Gap Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dickey McDowell; parents Harvey and Mae Lucy Manning Atkins; son, Marty McDowell; grandson, Jonathan McDowell.

Survivors include her children, Janice Lance of Tellico Plains, Tenn.; Jeannie (Gleason) Gass of Higdon, Ala.; Angelica Patterson of Scottsboro, Ala.; and Michael (Nikki) McDowell of Higdon, Ala.; grandchildren, Tony Lance, Rodney Lance, Kimberly Lance, Amanda Jones, Daniel Gass, Adam McDowell, Nathan McDowell, Jonathan Smith, Winoa Cornett, Christina Cornett, Garrett Patterson, and Carly Patterson; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Monday, May 2 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Gary McDade officiating. Interment was in Payne Gap Cemetery.

CHRISTINA MORROW

Christina Lee Morrow, 58, of Trenton passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022.

Christina was a loving wife, mother, and mamaw. She was born to William Robert (Bob) and Lorraine Clift on Aug. 28, 1963 in Oakland, Calif. She was a 1981 graduate of Northwest Georgia High School and went on to get her Bachelors in Nursing from Erlanger School of Nursing. ” Chrissy” as many called her, devoted her life to caring for others as a nurse for over 35 years. She loved thrift shopping, planting flowers and gardening. In her last years, she devoted her days to spreading the gospel of Jesus with anyone and everyone she could. When her body failed her and all she could do was communicate with her eyes and an electronic device she still sent out a daily devotional text to nearly 500 people a day. She made it her mission to tell everyone that she loved them but Jesus loved them more!

She was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Clift; grandparents, Birdie Lee and Elmer Welch, Lucille and Dillion Davidson.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; children, Heather (Dusty) Warnock, Jennifer (Ben) Galyean, and Arron (Aprille) Hickey; grandchildren, Levi, Kayleigh and Sydney Warnock, and Walker Hall; sister, Tina (Clint) Slaven; niece, Brittany (Chris) Dee; nephews, Cody Clift, Gavin and Eli Slaven; great–aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to The Team Gleason Foundation.

Funeral services were Tuesday May 3 at Ryan’s Funeral Home with Troy Walliser officiating. Interment was at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

TIM SHELTON

Baxter Timothy Shelton, 67, of Wildwood, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022.

Tim graduated from Dade County High School, Northeast Alabama Community College and attended West Georgia College. His career was in the vending industry working at Cavalier Corp., Dixie Narco and most recently retired from Changer Services of Minnesota the end of 2020. Tim was a member of Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. He treasured his many friendships from childhood through every phase of life.  He loved spending time on his farm and sharing it with others. If you received a call from him while he was on the “back 40”, you were special to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leman F. Shelton and Willie Rose Cross Shelton of Wildwood.

Survivors include his son, Baxter Shelton of Atlanta; twin brother, Roger Shelton of Wildwood; sister and brother-in-law, Kristy and Tony Gresham of Huntersville, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Shelton, Jon (Brooke) Shelton, Brian (Jen) Gresham and Brooke (Caleb) Vuljanic.

Tim was proud of the work his nephew does with Samaritan’s Purse.  In lieu of flowers, consider making a contribution to Samaritan’s Purse, Boone, N.C.

A celebration of life was Saturday, April 30, in the funeral home chapel.
