FRANK CHAPPELEAR

Harry Franklin “Frank” Chappelear, 72, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

He was born May 15, 1949, to Pauline and the late Harry Lee Chappelear. Frank was a kind man who always wore a smile and never met a stranger. He was retired from ADM Milling in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was loved my many and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his father, Frank was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Chappelear; sisters, Pat Cagle, Barbara Hicks and Freda Higdon; brothers, Gary and Byron Chappelear.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Chappelear; son, Lee (Oceclia) Chappelear; mother, Pauline Chappelear; brother, James (Betty) Chappelear; grandchildren, Colton, Drake (Mary), Madelyn, Bree, Kira and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Huntleigh and Willow; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 7 in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Jim Blaylock, Brother James Chappelear and Amanda Lilley speaking. Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery on Lookout Mountain.

SHIRLEY FORSHEE

Shirley Dean Forshee, 83, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Saturday, Jan. 8.

She was born March 5, 1938, to the late Willie and Ada Inman. Shirley was a member of Higdon Free Holiness Church for over 62 years. She enjoyed cooking and made sure everyone was well fed. Shirley was a retired seamstress from Buster Brown in Ider, Ala., and loved to quilt.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, John, Bill and Aurthur Inman; sisters, Mille Davis and Carrie McBryar.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe Forshee; daughter, Starla (Tony) Strickland; sons, Randy (Marcia) Forshee and Brad (Tina) Forshee; sisters, Martha Easley, Betty (Paul) Mashburn and Patricia (Sherman) Tinker; grandchildren, Cherie’ (Ryan) Sanders, Josh (Katie) Forshee, Natasha (Josh) Aragaki, Rashae McCreary, Brittany (Miguel) Hernandez and Branson (Whitney) Strickland; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Judy Chisnall and Encompass Hospice for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until 2 ET at Higdon Holiness Church.

A funeral service for Shirley will be at 2 ET p.m., today, Jan. 12 at Higdon Holiness Church with Brother Edwin Spurgeon and Brother Barry Pritchett officiating.  Interement will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

KENNETH GASS

William Kenneth Gass, 83, of Bryant, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.

He was born Sept. 22, 1938, to the late William Cecil and Mildred Elizabeth Gass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U. S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. Kenneth was a member of Floral Crest Seventh Day Adventist Church.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his nephew, Franky Dale Bethune.

Survivors include his sister, Bernice (Davis) Bethune; nephews, Jeffrey (Carla) Bethune and Tim Bethune; great-nieces Heather (Curtis) Stevenson, Kyla Jolly, Haley Bethune; great-nephew Zane Bethune.

A private family service was held.

The family deeply appreciates the love, prayers, and understanding of everyone during this time.

MARTHA “JANET” HIXON

Martha “Janet” Hixon, 88, of Wildwood, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022.

She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on March 28, 1933, and spent the majority of her life living in Wildwoood, thereafter, with her husband and family. Janet attended Dalton Junior College where she received her R.N. license, and at the age of 56, she completed her Education degree from the University of Georgia. During her collectively 50 year career practicing multiple fields of nursing in the Chattanooga region, she also taught Health Occupation in the Dade County School System for approximately 10 years.

A self-taught painter practicing multiple mediums, she specialized in oils, and infused her teaching skills and love of art by opening up her own private studio in the 1990’s during which time she gained membership into the Chattanooga Civic Art League and held the position of Director there for some time. Janet and her husband, Jim, traveled to almost every state together, in addition to Costa Rica and Canada, and she and her daughter took multiple trips to Europe together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lettye Wilson Cross; her husband of 66 years, James E. Hixon; daughter, Brenda Hixon Tanguay; brothers, Ray, Jack, Clarence Jr., Donald, Fred, and Carl; sisters, Mary Ruth, Faye, and Doris.

Survivors inclkude her sons, Wes (Mary Ann) Hixon, Paul Hixon, and Alex Hixon; granddaughters, Megan (Stu) Thomas and Bailey (Jonathon) Bullard; great-grandchildren, Cross and Emerson Bullard and Crews and Hadley Thomas; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 11 in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Lakewood West Memorial Gardens on Jan. 19.

RANDY MOON

Randall “Randy” Charles Moon, 61, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.

Randy was born in Illinois on Aug. 26, 1960, to the late Richard and Nadine Moon. He was a 28-year veteran of the United States Army and worked for Pilot Travel Centers. Randy was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Betty Moon; daughters, Diana Blackwell and Cristina (Brandon) Hackler; sister, Karen Moon of Marion, Ill.; grandchildren, Christopher James Long, Zachary Long and Issac Lee Baker.

A graveside service was Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family.

DENISE REDFORD

Denise Henrietta Redford, 50, of Huntland, Tenn., passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.

Denise was born on Sunday, Feb. 14, 1971, to the late Harold and Emma Jean Redford. She had an outgoing personality who loved singing and dancing, a beautiful soul with a big smile and she never met a stranger.  Denise was the perfect example of how Jesus would like for us to treat each other.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thurman and Edith Haney, Nellie Haney, Owen and Alma Redford.

Survivors include her brother, Harold Redford “Bubber” Jr., of Huntland, Tenn.; sisters, Darlene Partin of Winchester, Tenn. and Regina Redford of Cowan, Tenn.; nieces, Jodi Stovall and Carlene Thompson; nephew, Jason (Miranda) Smith; six great-nieces, one great-nephew.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 11 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Keith Wilson officiating.  Interment was in Head Springs Cemetery, Valley Head, Ala.

ELEANOR TOWNER

Eleanor Jean Towner, 74, of Ider, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

Mrs. Towner was a licensed electrician and a member of Faith Baptist Church in East Ridge, Tenn. She served in the mission field with Amazing Grace Missions and with the Silent Word Ministries in Trenton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Sarsfield, and sister, June Jago.

Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Towner; daughters, Jewel (Jeff) Hall, Sanford, Fla., and Mary (Sven) Cvetkovic, Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, Phillip (Mary Ann) Baines, Henagar, Ala., and Lee Varner; mother, Jean Sarsfield, Sanford, Fla.; brothers, Steve (Carolyn) Sarsfield, Canton, Mich., and Charles (Susan) Sarsfield, Winder; sisters, Vicki Sarsfield and JoAnne (Steve) Tibbetts, all of Sanford, Fla., and Sheila Sarsfield, Ider, Ala.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Interment will be at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

MYRTLE WADE

Myrtle Elizabeth Wade, 81, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022.

Mrs. Wade was a wonderful mother and friend and a longtime member of Floral Crest Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wade, parents, Wilson and Lila Godwin; five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her daughters, Rita McCurdy (James Hammock) and Terri (Dale) Cloud, all of Bryant, Ala.; grandchildren, Barry (Aubree) McCurdy, Alicia (Billy) Williams, and Cari (Cody) Williams; great-grandchildren, Brandt, Addie, Mack, Cody, Landon, Callie, and Caybree; sister, Bessie Morse of Stella, N.C.; sister-in-law, Helen Belinc, Southgate, Mich.

Due to Covid-19, a private burial was held for family only.

MARY FRANCES WILSON

Mary Frances Bell Wilson, 88, of Lookout Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

She was born July 13, 1933 in Fort Payne, Ala., to the late Frank and Thelma Mae Wooten.  Mary loved to play pranks on her family and give gag gifts at Christmas. She retired from the textile industry after 42 years of service at Crystal Springs and Rossville Mills. She was a member of the Free Holiness Church, enjoyed sewing and gardening. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Fred Bell and husband of 13 years, James Wilson.

Survivors include her daughters, Gwinda Lee Taylor and Jeanette (Mark) Walker; sister, Lois; grandchildren, Sandy (Josh) Walker, Cody Walker and Elizabeth Lee Taylor; great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Hayes, Lexus Iris Hayes, Austin Lee Walker, Christopher Brent Walker, Oliver Gil and Owen Gil.

Funeral services wre Saturday, Jan. 8 in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home.  Interment was at Mount Olive Cemetery on Lookout Mountain.
