REBECCA HAZEN/Dade County Sentinel
Tree City USA planted a red maple tree on Friday, Nov. 12, in honor and remembrance of Andy Newby, a senior ranger with the Georgia Forestry Commission for 34 years, until his retirement. Pictured from left to right: Laurie Carden, Tree City USA president Eloise Gass, Kay Hill, Georgia Forestry rangers Kerry Philips, Robert Dunn and Seth Hawkins, Eric Hill and Kathleen Newby. “He was a trouper and a half,” Gass said. “I met him several years ago, hanging out at the old office in Trenton. He would tell stories, and I liked listening to them. He had a bunch of stories. I learned a lot from him,” Dunn said. Kathleen Newby, Andy’s wife, thanked everyone and said that Andy would be proud.
