Register Now For 4–H Summer Day Camps

Alison Henderson, Dade County 4-H educator, talked about upcoming summer day camps and other 4-H related activities during the weekly county update on Thursday, May 27.

The first camp is for Cloverbuds, which is for age pre-k through third grade. There will be two different half-day sessions to choose from on June 29 or June 30. The Cloverbud camp will be all about nature. The price is $20 per student.

There is also a Cloverleaf day camp for grades 4-6. That camp is July 20-23 and costs $100 per student. There will be field trips in the morning and crafts/activities in the afternoon.

For grades 4-12, there will be two–day camps. One is a crafts camp, on June 9, and the other is a 4-H outdoor camp, on July 13. This camp is $20 per day per student.

If you are interested, you can register for the different camps at the Ag Center.

There will also be a volunteer training day on Monday, June 7, at both noon or 6 p.m. Pizza will be served at the training meetings.

“If you are interested in being a volunteer and have not been one before, this is a perfect time to come because we are going to do an overview of all the programs we will have coming up this next school year,” Henderson said.

Also, the D.A.D.E. Grass Class will begin Thursday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m., at the Ag center. The meeting topic will be Hay Production.

Public Information Officer Carey Anderson told community members about the ongoing Georgia Veterans Outreach Project, which is a free virtual legal clinic. It will be June 5 and July 10. All veterans in the state of Georgia are eligible. Attorneys will talk with veterans about legal issues. They cannot help with criminal law issues. To sign up, please call (706) 542-6439 or email uga.veteransclinic@gmail.com. Registration will be open up three weeks before each event.

Executive Director Ted Rumley noted that the annual barbecue at South Dade is being held next Saturday, June 5. It starts at noon.

Kids plates are $5, and adult plates are $7. Barbecue by the pound can be bought for $8.

Vaccinations are still available at the Dade County Health Department. Vaccinations are available both by calling (706) 657-4213 for an appointment as well as walk-ins.
