Tri-State Food Pantry Thanks Lineman Volunteers

Lineman workers in training at the Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) volunteered at the Tri-State Food Pantry last month. The pantry thanked the trainees by providing them lunch on Tuesday, March 2, at the Training Center’s main campus. According to Harry Abell (standing, left), secretary for the Tri-State Food Pantry, most of their volunteers are in their 60s and 70s, so lifting 40 to 50 pound boxes of food can be difficult. “To have young people do that, it is a blessing,” Abell said. “The Tri-State Food Pantry is so important right now. We help about 70-80 families,” volunteer Jimmy Stewart said. Marcus Hulsey, Elevated Life Director at SLTC, helped the food pantry recruit the lineman volunteers. Hulsey is in charge of campus and residence life, as well as the leadership and mentoring program. “I try to help give these guys meaningful things to do. They give back to the community and they get to know the folks in the community.”
